The staff.. the food... was just wonderful! During 3 days staying, The temperature of hot spring water was lukewarm warm.. only the first night there was pretty decent temperature water in one of the pool... but rest of 2 days... all 3 of the pool's water temperature was disappointing

This Ryokan experience was one of the best I’ve ever had. The staff was impeccable, making me feel incredibly at ease. The dinner was delectable, and the hot spring was incredibly relaxing. I was so comfortable that I decided to skip breakfast, but I hadn’t informed anyone. When I didn’t show up, the host came to check on me to ensure I wasn’t unwell. I would return to Japan solely for this hotel experience! It perfectly embodies the image of a Japanese mountain retreat. Nothing everything was perfect.

We stayed in a room with a private onsen, which made the experience even more special. Being able to relax in our own hot spring, surrounded by nature and complete tranquility, allowed us to fully unwind and enjoy every moment at our own pace. What truly sets this ryokan apart is the exceptional care and thoughtfulness of the staff. Every detail was handled with such warmth and attentiveness that we genuinely felt looked after throughout our stay. Their kindness made it incredibly easy to feel comfortable and at home. A very special thank you to Manager Mika, who went above and beyond to assist us with anything we needed. Her constant support, genuine kindness, and warm presence made our stay even more meaningful. Because of her hospitality, this ryokan is not just a place we stayed—but a place we truly connected with and hope to return to again. Combined with the peaceful atmosphere, beautiful onsen, delicious traditional meals, and heartfelt service, Ryokan Yamanami is a place we would wholeheartedly recommend. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

The breakfast was delicious and on time as requested. The onsen was relaxing and very satisfying after a day’s walking around. But most of all, the staff were very helpful and friendly. Worth coming back..

We spent a night here and booked the annex with private bath - we were not disappointed at all! Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. I had made a mistake with my booking in selecting a single adult when I was travelling with my wife, but the staff were happy to prepare kaiseki meals for both of us at the very last minute (at extra charge of course). The kaiseki was an amazing experience. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, cannot comment on location as we drove there. Had no difficulties finding the place and parking was free and easy to find. Would definitely recommend! Only gripes (and I'm absolutely nitpicking here) were that the rooms were a little bit dated and tired, and the annex is actually about 100m walk along the access road to the main building, so walking to the baths or meals at the main building in your yukata especially in cold weather can be difficult in spite of the haori provided. Annex rooms have their own private baths anyway.

Everything. From the very kind and friendly stuff, to the breakfast, and the cleanliness and relaxing facilities. I ended up staying for 4 days and it was the best hotel in the long few months trip in Japan. I'll definitely come back ? The only thing is it's a bit far from town center but it's not a big deal. Perfect other than that.

Had a fabulous experience in this ryokan which is located away from the main downtown area so it's quieter! Walkable unless you have suitcases because of very narrow sidewalk along the way. Taxi is JPY550 from Yufuin Station. Stayed in one of the rooms with the private, open air onsen which is in an annex building a short 1-2 min. walk from the main building. The facilities are very clean & comfortable Japanese style tatami mat rooms. Opted for the breakfast and kaiseki dinner offering and was not disappointed. Absolutely fabulous variety of meals with top-notch items, beautifully presented each time. The staff (Mika, Kimi, Chang, Yuka, etc.) were so friendly and helpful. Felt so at home and comfortable there. Used both the private onsen in room (which is fenced in and no view) and the public onsen in the main building with the view of Mount Yufu. Splendid, relaxing experience. Absolutely nothing at all!

We ended a 6-week Japan trip with a 3-day stay at Ryokan Yamanami. We treated ourselves to one of the Annex rooms, with an attached bathroom, private outdoor onsen, and private parking. It was such a treat! The room was peaceful, clean, well organized with a separate entrance area, toilet, sink area and shower. There was a wine cooler/fridge, as well as a hot plate for boiling water for tea. They left tea, coffee and treats for us every day. Breakfast was a highlight, eating in the dining room, overlooking magnificent Mt Yufu (which we climbed one day). The breakfasts were amazing and plentiful, served beautifully, with a lot of little dishes and wonderful tastes and textures. I don’t eat red meat, so they served me fish and chicken instead. For our 3-day stay, every breakfast was different, but equally beautiful and well presented. One night, we splurged on the kaiseki dinner, and it didn’t disappoint. It was truly amazing! Staff are all wonderful and kind, and the environment is relaxed and rejuvenating. We were also provided with beautiful yukatas and all the amenities needed such as toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, etc. I highly recommend this ryokan, and the annex rooms. Nothing

The breakfast was great, but they did charge me extra because I have a food allergy. Generally, it is okay and understandable- since they made special things for me, and it was delicious and a much appreciated effort. But they only told me about it after I had the first breakfast, so I didn't really have the option to say no to the additional payment.

We included breakfast and dinner during our stay and it was the best choice we made. The staff were incredibly kind, the food was insanely delicious, the tatami beds were very comfortable with soft and fluffy covers. I would stay here again if I get a chance to come back. There was nothing we didn’t like.
