Palmers Lodge Hostel

They asked us when we would arrive. I told them exactly when. However, no one was there to check us in when we arrived at the stated time, and we had to wait for 15 minutes for someone to show up at reception. No one came when we rang the bell either or called. Picking up our luggage on check-out day was a bigger issue. They weren't there when we came back, didn't respond to the bell or phone call, which caused one of us to miss our bus. There wasn't a social vibe at all. The beds were unusually high off the ground in the private room. There was a bit of a weird smell from the bathroom. The tram runs almost all the time, is right in front of the room, and pretty loud.

After staying in hostels, a private room at the Palmer's Lodge was exactly what we needed! It was conveniently close to the bus station and a mall. They offered luggage storage. It's a 15 minute walk to the center, which was fine for us, but may not be suitable for others.

Well just the location to trains and bus station. Other then that I don't find it pleasent. I didn't know they had a rule latest checkin was like 10.15 pm and I was called by the staff guy and I said I'm on my way and they said I got time till 10.15 and they are gone then. That was disappointing and I felt it was rude. Like they don't care about their guests As for the room it's in the basement..I booked a single person room with own bathroom. I could not reach the window to open. The room smells bad. Has a odor of mold and just stuffy air. The price for such room was also a lot for me. I paid over 50 Euro. Location is ok. As I needed be near the bus station. I have stayed here multiple times in the past. However I would not stay again. Its just for that price not worth it and I can book an apartment that is not smelly for that price.

The sounds of the tram is very near in my room.. but they will provide an ear plug.

The kitchen was well stocked, the beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were clean, and the hostel was safe.

The location is right next to the train and tram station. My roommates are considerable. They also have a good kitchen. My room is in the basement and every time the tram or someone goes through it is quite noisy.

Very Welcoming and personal touch in everything the staff do. It is very easy to get to this place on foot from the Railway station or from the Bus station. One chair can be kept in every room for sitting or to put on the shoes.

It’s well located near the bus/train station but very noisy if that is a concern for you.

The best hostel in Zagreb. The staff is helpful and caring. The position is perfect to have a walk around, bars and shops in the very nearby.

If you only need to spend a night in Zagreb, than maybe I would choose this hostel. Otherwise… do not recommend. Although the bed and bathroom were pretty comfortable, and I was even given a towel (which isn’t the case in every hostel), the location isn’t the best. It is not in the city center, but the city is pretty small so it’s not too bad in that regard. But the rooms are located underground, which is probably why every time the tram passes by the hostel, the noise is very loud and you can even fell a little shaking. Also, when I wanted to leave my baggage for the day after I spent the night, there was no one at the reception, and I waited for about half an hour but nobody came. Luckily the girl in my room was shown where the luggage room keys were so I was able to store my luggage. But when I came back in the afternoon to take my luggage, you guessed it right, there was no one there either. I messed with bags for a few minutes so someone finally showed up when I was about to walk out the door. I just feel like having someone at reception at working hours should be a given. Oh and considering the price.. I mean it wasn’t too expensive but I stayed in hostels for less per night in which I had much greater experience.

The hotel staff were all friendly, very accommodating, and warm. The layout of the hotel - the reception / living area and the kitchen- was even accessible to the guests where we can just hang out and chill. This made me feel so much at home, especially during a bleak and cold winter, when a cup of tea is highly appreciated. The hotel location is about a 10-minute walk to the Central Bus Station, about 5 mins to the Central Train Station... and about 15 - 20 mins to the town center.

Staff members were beyond any expectations towards my child and myself. Super professional, kind and always the extra mile. It feels like we made some friends in Zagreb! And I thank both of the ladies so very much for the memories that they offered to my son. Regarding the private room in the basement, all the reviews are accurate I am afraid :( We had an upgrade to the second floor and that saved our nights.

The rooms were comfortable and clean, and I really appreciated that each room had its own private bathroom, which was very tidy. We were provided with towels and lockers and the staff was incredibly kind and always ready to help. Overall, a great experience! It would have been nice if shampoo and shower gel were provided in the bathroom, but it wasn’t a big inconvenience.
