Nothing. Absolutely unsafe, unsanitary, and uninhabitable — do NOT book this hotel. I booked four nights at Nungwi Heritage Hotel and did not stay a single night because the room was completely unlivable. A few hours after checking in, I experienced a severe ant infestation that escalated rapidly. Ants started crawling all over the bed, walls, and floor, and then began getting onto my personal items as well. They were coming from everywhere — it was genuinely horrifying, like something out of a movie, and made my skin crawl. This was not a minor issue or a few insects; it was unsanitary, unsafe, and impossible to sleep in. I quickly called the owner. He brought in an employee who started stepping on the ants, and then they ran out of bug spray. That alone should tell you everything: they were completely ill-equipped to handle a basic hygiene and pest control issue, and the “solution” was essentially improvisation while the infestation continued. Because of the conditions, I had no choice but to leave the property immediately. This was around midnight on New Year’s Day, and I was forced to go hotel to hotel in the middle of the night, trying to find anywhere that could accommodate me. It was stressful, dangerous, and completely unacceptable — especially as a traveler who had planned and prepaid for my stay. I returned to the hotel specifically to speak with the manager/owner and request a refund, since I never stayed at the property at all despite booking four nights. Instead of handling the situation professionally, he began yelling at me, showed zero compassion, and flatly denied my refund request — again, even though I did not stay there for a single night. He then raised his voice further and said he would “tell Booking.com his side of the story.” What side? That the hotel is dirty and uninhabitable? That guests are expected to sleep in rooms overrun with ants, with staff stepping on them and running out of bug spray? (1/2) (2/2) That a paying guest can be forced out at midnight on a major holiday and then be yelled at for asking for basic accountability? There was no problem-solving, no empathy, no ownership, and no attempt to make things right. The behavior from management was as disturbing as the condition of the room itself. This experience was ridiculous, unsafe, and deeply unprofessional. I am a well-seasoned traveler, and this was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had — not just because of the infestation, but because of how it was handled afterward. Do not book here. No one should have to deal with unsanitary conditions, personal belongings being swarmed, an ill-equipped staff response, verbal hostility from management, and being stranded at midnight on a holiday after paying for a stay. Save yourself the stress, money, and safety risk and stay elsewhere. I also have pictures and videos for everything and have attached photos with timestamps.

The owner and staff are amazing and welcoming. The stay was overall great! Just one note, the beach/main street are

Well kept unit, very spacious and extra clean rooms. The manager very friendly, welcoming and eager to help and support every demand and need. We mentioned him a couple of things we would like to see repaired, and repaired they were in no time. Staff more than pleasant, polite, smiley, inviting. The gate keeper, Yona, is a great personality and a nice person to chat with, also keen to show you around and escort you at night should you feel uncomfortable in your first night walk. Breakfast is good and the staff is flexible enough to meet your special needs. A bit of a problem walking back from the Main Street, due to dust road and lack of public lights, however, there are sporadic lights from private properties and overall in the entire island you don’t get the feeling of being unsafe. Water pressure was very low in one of our rooms

Location was perfect.hotel located on the sidelines 10 min to the beach. ideal for rest and relax very quiet great service, small room but always clean. poor water pressure and power outages

The owner is such a great person, hats off for that. Also, the price for the accomodation is really cheap. I feel like there were a few basic things that were missing, although for the price I paid I am not really complaining ( just some feedback for improvement ). The water pressure was really low so it was really hard to wash my hands and shower. A liquid soup would have been way better than the soap bars that wouldn't even give foam. I feel like the cleanliness could have been a bit better, the same as the breakfast ( I only got some fruits and a small omlette with 1 piece of bread ). A coffee machine ( coffee would cost extra if you want ) would also make a difference for coffee lovers like me. And as the others said, the road is really dark at night and dusty.

Food, staff, pool, room size, cleanliness Initially a bathroom odor, which the plumber fixed promptly the following day. Location is not close to the ocean or the center of town.

We were treated like family. I liked everything, it was away from the noise and traffic of the beach, it created a restful atmosphere.

The staff was really nice. It was our son's birthday on the arrival day and they helped to organize a beautiful surprise party. We also loved breakfasts, the facilities and location.

It is really nice, cosy, good hotel, I highly recommend it. Spacious, clean, and well-kept rooms, friendly and helpful staff. I really enjoyed my stay here. The only downside is the road leading to the hotel.

Staff is amazing, specially the owner, the helped me a lot with some issues. Normally I would expect less for the money I paid but was better than expected.

We loved everything about this place. But the real soul of it was the lovely Fina, who is an angel and she made our stay wonderful. Accommodation is clean, has a nice pool, food is delicious. The beach is about 7 min walking distance. It was nothing not to like

Where do I begin Mahantesh the owner was amazing. He and his wonderful staff made sure that all our requests were achieved. There was a brief period where me and my wife craved South Indian food, Mahantesh provided us with amazing South Indian food. The staff were helpful throughout and smiley throughout. The roads leading to the property is rough and bumpy so please be careful and walking through the night can be scary as there is limited lights leading to the property.

Very nice resort. I thanks all the staff for their welcome. Every time nice and open to help. Highly recommended.

Mahantesh GS and his team are excellent. The accommodation is ideal for families, great value for money and everyone is super friendly. The rooms are spacious and clean. The location is quiet and away from the busy beaches but only a 5-10 minute walk. You wont receive a friendlier welcome in Nungwi! N/A
