A traditional East Sussex inn in the South Downs, Ye Olde Smugglers Inne dates back to the 14th century and retains plenty of its original character. A cozy fireside bar and restaurant complement the bespoke rooms, which all benefit from free Wi-Fi. Each room has private bathrooms and has a radio, alarm clock and wardrobe. A self-service continental style breakfast consisting of toast and cereals, pastries, yogurt and fruit, tea and coffee is available each morning from 07:30 – 09:00. The pub serves home-cooked food all day, along with an impressive international wine list and fine Sussex ales. The pretty village of Alfriston lies around 17 miles east of the coastal city of Brighton, with the vibrant center just over 30 minutes’ drive away. Around 9 miles from both Eastbourne and Lewes, this inn is just 3 minutes’ drive from Drusilla’s Wildlife Park, and 30 minutes from Bexhill’s De La Warr Pavilion theater and arts center.

Didn’t eat any breakfast but the coffee machine was great! Awesome outdoor space and garden. Nothing I didn’t like, but better tonic brand would have been good!

The location was excellent - very close to the South Down Way - with a lovely shop to re-supply for the next day

I stayed in a quirky little room is a quirky, very old inn, an experience with the journey. We dined at the pub, clearly the most popular in town, and enjoyed a meal that was somewhere between classical and innovative pub food.

Quaint and charming room. The bed was very comfortable and once the pub emptied sometime after 10pm on Saturday night, there was absolutely no noise at all. The food in the pub was good - not great, but good. Old fashioned English village charm, rather up market little shops and fantastic walks. Staff were very nice and efficient. Super old building so I understand the reasons for the quirkiness of the room - the bathroom was very small and shower pressure very low.

The room was cute and comfortable, we liked having a TV, we had a simple burger for dinner but it was well made, breakfast was fine, and of course the town is lovely.

Lovely 2 night stay at The Smugglers Inn in the heart of beautiful Alfriston. The staff were so friendly, the room was charming, comfortable and had everything needed. We also ate one night at the pub and it was so festive, with lovely food too. We would definitely stay again if we're in the area! The breakfast is a bit basic for the price, however there is also a little cafe directly opposite which we had some food in so it's not really an issue.

A wonderful welcome from the staff and management. Very nice people. Loads of character to the building. A pleasant bar and dining areas. Right in the heart of Alfriston and close to the South Downs Way. Breakfast is very basic.

Friendly bar staff checked us in and showed us to the room, spacious and comfortable with tv, 4 poster bed, shower and bath. Tea and coffee facilities. Breakfast was set up in the bar, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, toast, tea and coffee. Breakfast was fine for us, , unless you prefer cooked.
