Motel 6 Altoona, IA - Des Moines East

Before I even walked in to check in, I was a little nervous because I saw a couple of homeless people pushing carts in the parking lot. Got up to the room and my wife quickly noticed the bed sheets had not been changed because they had human hair all over them. While bringing up our luggage, I got approached by a prostitute in the hallway 10 ft from our room. Then I noticed one of the homeless people pushing their cart down the hallway. We loaded our luggage back into the car and left. I've never been so happy to lose $154 in my life. So there you go

The staff person who checked me in was nice.

Room was clean, outside around the building needs a lot of maintenance and cleaning

Horrible. When we got into the room, our sheets and pillows were on the ground. There was dead bugs in the room. Front counter staff was helpful when I needed a some paper.

Definitely a cheap place to stay. Bed was somewhat comfortable but the pillows were horrid. Outside was slightly unkempt.

If you only need a place for a night this will do the job but it is a bare bones establishment. No carpet. Metal bed frames. Mattresses were alright but not the most supportive. The ceiling had something on it in the main room. The bathroom had no cover for the vent in the ceiling. The walls down the main corridor show signs of work but it's not covered up well. Other work was needed too. Like I said bare bones. It will do the job for a cheap night but isn't a great place to stay or the most warm in atmosphere.

Area and hallways dirty. Doors were broken as anyone could walk in after hours. Never cleaned my room during my 3 day stay. Mirror light didn't work. Hard to shave in the dark. Sink was plugged up and had to get a plunger and do it myself. I will never stay here again!

The place is very run down.. Only a couple of lights worked in the room and the sink took 2 days to drain.. there was trash everywhere inside and out.. walking to the room there were pills on the floor..the place smelled like a marijuana dispensary on a free day.. the security door lock was tore out so no safety.. pool was not working even though I had called to verify that they had a working pool.. it had been out of service for a long time and they had no idea when they would be getting it fixed.. staff if and when you could find one was somewhat helpful.. I would suggest that someone from corporate should come to investigate and crack down on getting things fixed.. we were very disappointed with the altoona motel 6 and will not be staying there again and won't be recommending it to anyone..

Not a great place. The room I got, I think was one of the best they had. Air worked, water was hot..

ONLY ONE LIGHT IN WHOLE ROOM WORKED NO TOWEL RACK IN BATHROOM MOLD ON CEILING ABOVE SHOWER, BATHROOM DOOR WOULDN'T CLOSE ALL THE WAY. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL AT ALL.

Absolutely disgusting, holes in the walls, black mold through the ceiling tiles. Sheets and comforters stained and warped out. Require a refund within the first 3 minutes of check in, that’s first red flag.

Smell of smoke in the rooms and in the hallway

The entire room was unsanitary. The floor surface was sticky on bare feet. The vanity sink was totally clogged. The toilet seat cover was broken from its hinge. The toilet bowl rim was splattered with feces. The bathroom ceiling paint was peeling and spotted with mold. One of the bed pillows had a dark hair on it. The right side of the blackout drape was disconnected. The TV remote was missing. The was a fist size hole on the wall opposite the check in desk.

Room was dirty, no help at front desk. Terrible experience.

The size of the fridge is the ONLY nice thing about this entire place.

The motel is run down needs renovations really really really bad and or just bulldozed start over. Staff is fine. I don’t recommend anyone staying there. I will not go back

Not the hotels fault, but our car broke down while here, and we had a friend drive 7 hours to come pick us up the day before our scheduled departure. I asked about getting him a room. He quoted me $176 for a single for one night! Keep in mind, I paid $608 for the entire WEEK, two queen with a kitchen! I told him no, and then he said he'd get me a room, WITH A BROKEN TV for $120. Again, I said no. I got back on Expedia a few hours later and booked a room, at the same hotel, for my friend for $81. Also, after being at the hotel for several nights, we learned, there is other "business" being run out of the hotel. The "locals" running "business" stay in one wing of the hotel, and traveling guest, like myself, stay in another. I would not go outside alone, or allow my daughter to go without my husband. The hotel worked for what we needed, and was budget friendly through Expedia, but I would NOT recommend others to stay here. The pictures made it look newly renovated, it was not.
