Canal House

What a pleasure to stay at Canal House! The location was perfect and we were able to walk to basically everywhere we wanted to go; I loved the aesthetic - lots of dark lush fabrics and pretty magical. The staff was so kind to us. My son actually got sick having just come from an intense trip to Paris, and the staff was not only sweet and understanding but were genuinely worried about him and the head of the hotel wrote him the loveliest note. The ONLY notes I would add are- some people have mentioned in reviews that the bath is in the room itself. This is actually not uncommon in many chic hotels and the staff was very upfront about it. I will say that the air conditioning is quite European and for American travelers who aren’t used to this, it might be a challenge in hotter months. However, we had a truly wonderful stay.

The hotel is very well located and the staff is incredibly nice and helpful. They even offered a cool towel and drink during the heat wave at checkin. The breakfast is wonderful (freshly squeezed juices, pastries, cold cuts & cheese, fruit - you name it!). The room was comfortable (without much day light, but this is Amsterdam city centre - everything is small). Nothing, we loved it.

We enjoyed the staff and the back courtyard was a nice place to chill out after a day out. Room was adequate, clean and quiet. I felt it was a little overpriced all things considered.

This is our second stay at Canal House, fantastic as usual. See you next year!

Wonderful outdoor garden behind the hotel. Very quiet and relaxing.

Terrible art in the room and could use a design refresh.

The location was great. The staff were really good at customer service. Seriously skilled at listening to guests and responding quickly. They also took bags to room up the stairs for us. I would stay again.

Wonderful location. Quiet street, beautiful hidden garden retreat at the back of the property. Very nice breakfast. Bit warm in the rooms, understand they are working on new air conditioning.

Beautifully decorated, very comfortable beds-best night’s sleep I’ve had in Europe, entire staff was welcoming, gracious, and helpful. It just doesn’t get any better than Canal House. I only regret that I had just one night here.

Staff were great. They were vey welcoming. the location was fantastic. Unfortunately there was no view to speak of from our room but we didn't spend much time there so we really didn't miss it.

Beautiful decor, peaceful and quiet in an exceptional location. Gorgeous garden! Our mattress left something to be desired.

Staff was very nice and our experience was very nice. The room was just as the picture and very nice BUT it was dark would have liked a little more light.

The room was awesome. We overlooked the fabulous garden. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was complete with tub and great shower.

Reception was lovely.

This hotel is a gem. It reminded me that traditional European hospitality is still alive and well (turn down service with homemade brownies!). Friendly staff, gorgeous building, beautiful decorations, fabulous location, delicious breakfast. It was magical. Honestly- it was kind of perfect.
