The check-in process was really annoying. You have to scan your passport yourself with the tablet provided and the system took a long time to process our passport photos. You then need to go through a pretty ridiculous call with an agent to confirm your identity. It makes you feel like you're passing customs, rather than checking in a hotel, which really spoiled our initial impression. Rakuten, you've got the money to pay for a manned front desk. A few other small issues were that the room lacks any utensils and you have to go downstairs to get yourself coffee (which can take some time since you often have to wait quite a bit for the elevator).

It’s clean, spacious and its morning/evening bar offered plenty of drinks and snacks. There is only hot bath in lady’s bath. I was told that there is cold dip and sauna in men’s bath.

Onsen was great No complaints

A really modern, clean and comfortable hotel. We had a great room and the extra home comforts were really appreciated. We especially appreciated the free bar and free ice cream in the evenings!

Great size room and great location

We liked the spa, the lobby and free drinks and snacks and rooftop deck! The carpets are looking dirty in the rooms, we actually asked to switch rooms became of it.

Nice large room and good view over the sea. Comfortable bed No staff. All services provided either remotely (check in) or by machines. Check in procedures worked ok but quite fiddly

The complimentary drinks were great The check in process- Having to call a staff member to finish the check in and having no one answer as they were busy 8-10 times was not a good start

The location provides an ocean view for every room which is great. The rooms are well-designed, spacious for Japanese standards, and the beds were comfortable. The second floor work areas were super useful to take meetings. We enjoyed the onsen, although many times the ambience was disrupted by loud guests who may not have had a clear understanding of onsen etiquette. The free drinks and small snacks available in the lobby made each evening after dinner feel special. We had to check out and check in twice during our trip because a room was not available for the entire duration of our stay -- we have to switch rooms twice. This meant we were saddled with our luggage between 11 am to 3 pm on those room transfer days. We managed, but luggage storage lockers which were not provided at Rakuten Stay, would have made those days a whole lot better. We also asked for new towels during our lenghty stay, which we did not get. Additionally, our international phone plan didn't allow for normal phone calls so we couldn't call a cab directly, which we needed to get to Atami Station -- a taxi phone in the lobby would have helped greatly.

The cleanest and the modernness of the hotel. Nothing that I really don’t like about the hotel.

The room was modern and thoughtfully decorated. The view was stunning. We loved the free drinks and snacks. We took advantage of the onsen every day. It was a very relaxing stay! It would be nice to have a front desk or at least one staff member in site for questions or issues.

The property was neat and clean in general: the lobby, common areas, guest rooms, and hot bath. All guest rooms offer sea view, are very comfortable and spacious. Many basic amenities are provided e.g. microwave, coffee grinder, dripper, glasses, cups, etc. The hot bath is well maintained and private most of the time (On both occasions, I was the only guest there) A 7-Eleven is close by, and many nice restaurants are within walking distance. The best part was that guests can enjoy drinks in the lobby (sake, wine, beer, whiskey) and soft serve ice cream from 5-10 pm. I was there in Summer, and since all the rooms are facing the East, I woke up super early in the morning when the sun came up (around 4-5 am!) because the curtains are not blackout - so if you are sensitive to the brightness, bring a sleep mask. There were also no dishwashing supplies (sponge & dishwashing liquid) provided in the kitchenette. The fact that this is an 'unmanned' property means you won't get the trash collected or towels changed, so just keep that in mind.

Location was great for us (we hired a car) and the modern spacious room (and its view!) was really nice (easily the best we had during our stay in Japan). As a bonus all guests get to use the onsen (we visited every day during our stay) and enjoy the "happy hour" drinks. As many have mentioned the check in by remote call is not the smoothest but soon forgotten.

The best view and spacious room Not much food choices nearby

The room, hotel, and baths were all clean and well maintained. The rooms were well appointed and comfortable. While the drinks and snacks in the lobby weren't important, they were such a pleasant, thoughtful surprise that it helped set the tone of a great stay.

It is a remote and electronic interaction. There is limited staff in the building, everything is handle remotely over an iPad and when check in and check out. If you think about it may have it’s benefits of course but some of us still like the human interaction (you still can call someone over the iPad). Also there is no temporary luggage storage.
