Casa Ak’ab’al Bacalar

The location was phenomenal. Unfortunately this property was not up to standards. We had to request the most essential items for a suite. A sad experience was that the management does provide only two individual pods of coffee per room. We had a suite with four people. If we wanted the two extra pods. We had to pay extra.

Very private and comfortable, localized in the shoreline of the lagoon The road la a little damaged so it takes a few extra minutes to get there

I loved that the property is in front of the lake and has a really nice pier where you can sit and admire the landscape Some facilities, such as the shower and toilet in one of the rooms weren’t functioning properly at the beginning but the manager made sure everything was fixed

The main home is spacious and has good facilities to cook as well as play games. It also has a private pier with a shed which is nice to hang out and swim. The power went out for about 7hrs during the night and therefore some of us suffered from the heat. The facilities aren't well kept as the pool was dirty due to rains, the restaurant was closed from 5pm and the location is far from any restaurant. There were no delivery options either. One of the room's ac units was not working and therefore one of the guests did not sleep well. The lounge area was messy and therefore could not be used.

The room was on the laguna It was a little bit on the small side with no windows apart from the door

The rooms a nice and it has access to the lake. The property has quite some stairs to get to the rooms and lake, so If you’re an older person or a family with small kids it could be challenging. The service is great however they lack people to help hence breakfast is served only at 9am and wait time is long and you could also say the same for lunch and dinner and expect a decent meal nothing out of the ordinary. Now the fact that it is quite far away from the city center makes it complicated to go out for breakfast and dinner so at least they should improve on this.

The breakfast and services were excellent. The owners provided best services and helped us in every way. Hotel is really good but you have to drive through off paved road for about 1km.

The hotel itself is beautiful, by the lagoon, the pier is inspiring and you relax there, take some great pictures and swim in the lagoon. The room is modern and comfortable. The nature in the place is beautiful. Paola tries her best to help the visitors, but it is not possible to accomplish all the requests. There were a couple of things we did not like, the internet was down most of the time, we could not watch tv most of the time, the pool was closed on a Saturday, the bar by the lagoon was never open, the air conditioning in the room was dripping (it was fixed afterwards). We asked to talk to the manager who did not show up until we had to go the reception in order to talk to him. On the other hand, the road to get to the place is really bumpy and the cabs complaint about it which makes it very expensive to take transportation.

The hotel's location is great, the view of the lagoon is beautiful. The cabins are fairly new and the staff is very helpful and friendly. The hotel is far away from everything else. There is a pretty long dirt road in order to get to the hotel. The hotel is short staffed. The WiFi was terrible. Need a car/taxi to get in and out.

Location and lake is amazing , staff is taking care and responding fast We arrived evening and was no water in 2 rooms, it was fixed after couple of hours , second day wifi stopped working and we were explained they need to wait nothing can be done, next morning it was fixed

It’s cool that is far from city, so you can have time alone, but it’s not cool that theres no personnel available when you need it, is more like an AirBnB by your own than a Hotel, but without kitchen or any way to repair something if wrong, reduced space, lack of maintenance in room and installations, not answering messages or calls, was not cool at all. You have access to your own lagoon, but it is too deep, so it is not recommended for children, if you are thinking traveling with kids would be better something near to Isla de Los Pájaros or the Cenote Esmeralda.

The place is beautiful. The room's facilities are good with microwave, fridge and coffee pod maker. There's a safe in the room, which is good because the door can't be locked. Free kayaks and paddelboards available. The view from our room, nr 6 was breathtaking. The dirt road from 307 wasn't too bumpy for a regular car. It would have been nice to have the breakfast included.The restaurang closed at 4 p.m. but there were a few other available if you don't mind a walk along a dirt road, or you could drive to town. The 307 is full of potholes and heavy vehicles .

The proximity to the lake was great. The decking area and seating/sun lounges for sunbathing and swimming were fantastic and the vista is beautiful. The on site bar was handy, we didn’t eat at the restaurant. The on site shop was also very handy, stocking all essential items such as sun cream, toiletries etc, especially useful given that this property is a way out of the main town with a difficult access road. Manager and staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. We unfortunately found 3 cockroaches in our room on the first night, which was unpleasant but equally understandably difficult to control so close to the jungle. The manager was attentive and did offer to let us swap rooms, but in future providing mosquito nets on the beds would solve this issue somewhat and provide a more comfortable stay. The room was otherwise clean. The road leading to the property is long and un-tarmaced with lots of potholes, which became a bit arduous by the end of our stay. The room also didn’t have hooks for clothes or suitcase holders, which would be helpful additions for the future. Overall it felt like the property has a lot of potential but still needs to work on some of the finer details.

The peace and quiet, the private lagoon access, the free kayaks and paddle boards, the different options for outdoor seating. Comfy bed and the nature and gardens. Shower was strong and hot. No access key to main gate, have to text to get back in but understand this increases security.

The lake is perfect temperature and beautiful Horrible smell coming out of the restroom since day 1 and the staff couldn’t fix it
