This was a quirky hippy campground right next to the lagoon — at the end of a long road through the jungle, so as quiet and dark as could be. We jumped into the water several times a day and loved it. Our kid enjoyed the family of ducks who wandered into the restaurant. The whole place had lots of character and staff were super nice. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast and also ate dinner there every night so we could swim We booked the room with a sea view, because it was awfully hot and we needed air conditioning. The setup was a bit more rustic than we were expecting, with a creaky old bed and not much in the way of curtains so the sun woke us up by 7am. The room wasn't really sealed, so the A/C had to chug away all night.

Beautiful location. Free kayaks and SUPs for use.

Lagoon is lovely!! You can use kayaks and SUPs! So pretty!! Bring bug spray. And you can cook your own food in the main dining area. We might have, if we would've known.

Nothing The property was pitch black when we arrived at 8pm. We were able to find what was front desk due to the party music they had. It is in the middle of no where. With no lighting. The room that I rented looked nothing like what I received. The shower plugged up after 2 mins and then it took another 2 mins to unplug to continue taking a shower. I only stayed one night out of the two that I paid for. I explained to the manager that my husband uses a cane and there is no lighting to the room from the parking or to the restaurant which is down a hill. She offered to change rooms closer to the restaurant. But that really wouldn't help because my husband still had to go up the hill. She tried to tell me that the hotel was not my style. Which has nothing to do about anything. The lighting and the fact that what I rented and what I received was not the same. The windows or dome is no like booking shows. It also says lake view. There is no lake view. When I told them. They say booking puts the title they have no control.

We booked this as a budget option - but were extremely pleasantly surprised. El Cayuco is an absolutely awesome place in no small part due to Rox who is an absolute asset to the business and a rare gem in the front-of-house world, EVERY HOTEL NEEDS A ROX! If I were the owner, I would give her a pay rise… you do not want to lose this one. Despite our cabin being worryingly close to the communal toilet block - we can’t even complain about that!!! and would undoubtedly book the same room again! Mosquito-netted patio areas were invaluable and massively appreciated by my husband and I. The kitchen also did a superb job and rivalled many of the far more up-market properties nearby. A truly amazing place to begin your exploration of the Lagoon of Seven Colours by canoe (or kayak)! We look forward to returning and we will be sure to stay longer next time!!! The communal areas felt a little crowded with day visitors at the weekends.

The breakfast was tasty and the coffee was great. The chalet was clean and comfortable. We loved the resident cat that stayed up in the soffit. Because of the recent rain the long drive in made the road a muddy slippery drive with pot holes filled with water.

The location at the lake is beautiful and you have kayaks to rent and explore the mangroves at the other side. Also the hammocks, swings and sitting places were nice. The bed was comfortable. Prices for drinks are also very affordable. The shower facilities are very basic, it would be so much better to invest there for some comfort. Also the cleaning of the toilets could be done more often as it’s all shared. Its a bit muddy as well.

It is in the middle of nowhere, and this is what gives its beauty. A spacious cabin right in front of the lake with a large window and the marvellous sunrise is not to miss. Swimming in the lake has its unique charm too. The use of the canoe is free of charge. A simple and rich breakfast with a nice service. Mosquitos? Not a single bite in my 6 days stay, probably they didn't like my blood type. It is a wonderful place to relax and the only thing missing is the hot water in the bathroom. Well, thisis the jungle. I loved the place.

The free cajaks The view and atmosphere The location and nature surrounding it The breakfast Dirty and damaged toilets Few showers Very bad and often no wifi No possibility to lock the door of the room No mosquito net

The location on the lake was lovely with the availability of kayaks, friendly staff and nice atmosphere When we arrived we were told that the restaurant was open until 7.30, however when we went down for dinner we found out it shut at 5 and all the staff had left (as it was the first of Jan), this was written on a sign but we hadn't read it and had been told otherwise. This wouldn't have been a problem if we had known in advance. The building which we stayed in was very strange. We couldn't work out if it was being built or falling down. The room was on a huge slant, the area outside the room had no lights, and just didn't feel complete or particularly nice. Due to the time of year it was so expensive and definitely is not worth that much to stay, if it was cheaper we would be more forgiving in the review, but at the price we paid the room and building was not up to standard.

    Exceptional

Very nice location on the laguna. The restaurant serves good food at reasonable price. We really enjoyed our stay. The dirt road to reach the place is a bit bumpy. The insulation of the room is bad.

The nature, the breakfast was super good It is far from the highway and the road is not paved. There was not hot water in the shower and there where some holes in the net covering the front door

They describe the breakfast as “superb” It’s just basic Mexican fare Nice place a pity it’s understaffed Difficult to get to, Animals roaming around not being cleaned up after them There is a notice saying clean up after your anamals but they don’t ?? Dirty uncleared for days tables Other than the lakeside Most things including website details saying Rooms when a basic tent is offered. The electrical wiring doesn’t meet minimum standards. Beds are too short for anyone over 5ft 6 inches Access road is in poor unmade condition best suited to 4x4 Hotel is a loose description, best description is campsite It’s a pity but I wouldn’t recommend it for an overnight stay No lights in the walkways 40m to the toilet block and only cold shower option
