Shanahans B&B with Sports Bar

NOT SUITABLE FOR SOLO FEMALE TRAVELERS. Staff weren't very friendly on arrival, made me wait and feel like an inconvenience for wanting to check in. I wasn't expecting much in the way of facilities for the price but I did expect it to be clean and to have some level of service. The building is very run-down and old, the communal areas are scruffy and security feels very lax. The rooms are not a terrible standard for the price and cleaning was decent but everything was very worn. The real issue was the placement and security though. I was staying in the middle of the recent heatwave, which nobody could have predicted or avoided of course, and though the room was very hot the staff did provide a fan. This was nowhere near adequate for the space however, so I attempted to open the window, which is right next to the bed. This is when I discovered that the window looks out and opens directly onto the beer garden and the flimsy worn curtains do not even shut properly. For comfort alone it would have been difficult to have the window open because of the noise levels, but when I saw where it was this became also a security issue and I felt not just uncomfortable but very unsafe. After about an hour of trying to get comfortable, i decided to cut my losses and leave. I would not have been able to spend a night there and feel at all secure. It is a very low price, for which I commend them, but if you can afford ANYTHING better, please take it, for your own safety and comfort, especially if traveling alone.

Very friendly staff. Clean. Everything in good, working order, Comfy bed. Nice, warm shower. Good tea and coffee making facilities. Excellent value for money for price paid. Thanks to Lynn for a lovely fry up in the morning! I would highly recommend the property for a no frills stay. Steep stairs to top room. Intermittent wifi signal on top floor (but wifi is fine elsewhere). Mirror in bathroom being slightly below face height (but not a major problem)

Perfect for what I needed Nothing

It is not a nice place for normal people. Please avoid it if you can. I should have read the worst Google reviews first, then I would have known why. If you are in a group, you might be okay. normally 7.8 reviews should be okay but not this one I did not sleep all night. 1.There was constant heavy traffic noise all night. No way to sleep because the window does not block the noise. 2. The next door played loud noise all night. Around 2:30 am, I woke up again and heard footsteps near my door, then someone tried to open my door. 3. The location is bad. There is nothing around, and I do not feel safe at all.

How central the location was There isn’t a thing I can say I didn’t like. It was a lovely stay

Took a taxi to get there so the location didn't matter too much to me. Breakfast was good and suited needy stomach! TV. Didn't work in my room for some reason.. And it was a little warm in the room.So a fan would have been nice to have.

Nothing The property isn’t well maintained. For starters, the entrance to the pub is completely destroyed. It looks like a bomb went off on it. There are no signs of work on it at the moment. The bar section was completely empty. I only saw one patron there during my stay. The room itself was a decent size. It wasn’t cleaned very well after the previous guest left. The floor was still dirty, there were body hairs on the bathroom ceramics, and it’s generally quite run-down. I went to the bar area to order a beer and I was given a bottle that was a degree or two below room temperature. I didn’t hand it back to the bar person because she had opened it before she gave it to me. I was exhausted so I didn’t want to make a fuss but a beer should never, ever be that warm. There is no shampoo or bath soap provided. In the morning I got a tea and the cleanliness of the coffee cups and the utensils was questionable. I had intended on getting breakfast but I quickly changed my mind after seeing that.

Easy to get to and an easy walk to the centre ? Nothing
