This was my second stay. My first was 20 years ago. It is still has a beautiful garden and terrace. The location is great. The room is tiny but adequate for one person. Someone that watches tv might find the angle difficult but I don’t watch it. Small detail but the water bucket used to recover water is collapsible and lost all the water. The drinking water ran out at night. The manager was non responsive Unfortunately I left my glasses and necklace. The manager berated me for this. I offered to prepay for DHL shipping which would include pickup and extra for her time but She insisted it had to go by post in an unpadded envelope. As I live in Mexico I could wait 3 weeks for delivery but if I didn’t they would have been lost. What bothered me more is being treated like an irresponsible person for forgetting my glasses. In truth I had looked all around the room for my glasses and thought they were lost so I was grateful to get them back. Nobody ever feels good about forgetting something. I just didn’t feel much like thanking her after being berated. I would only stay again if there was new management.

I liked the architecture, the design, the history, the stories - in the many furnishings, the eccentricities everywhere in the house. Whoever was or is behind it is an artist, someone sensitive to the colors of life. Look closely. It's easy to miss some little gem. It would have been perfect if breakfast was served. There's only five rooms. It would have been a chance to meet other guests. On the other hand, there's the roof terrace to hang out in common space.

Takes 5-7 minutes for hot water to come out of shower. Low water pressure of shower.

Good location, great facilities, clean and spacious room, responsive and welcoming staff. You need to climb a slope to the casa. Not very suitable for seniors.

The location was close to the centre but also far enough to feel quiet. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. Paulina was friendly and helpful. Shower was hot. The water pressure was a bit low but not too bad.

This was such a beautiful guest house! It was very quiet and comfortable, and the staff were incredibly kind. The location is fantastic - easy to get to the centre, but far enough way that it feels quiet and cozy. There's also a wonderful terrance with a great view of the city. I highly recommend checking out Bento-Ya OMI just down the hill and Prendido Cafe.

If you can't climb stairs or hill this is not the place for you. I loved it, but, just putting it here for those who may have mobility issues. Water pressure is lower than some places I've stayed but typical of a lot of places in Mexico.

My room was super charming, but it was on the top floor and the ceiling (made of brick) got super hot in the sunshine and stayed warm all night. With no ceiling fan to move the air around, it was too warm for comfortable sleeping to my taste.

Thoughtfully appointed guesthouse . Charming and historical. Very comfortable King bed overlooking enclosed garden. Keyless entry. Very warm welcome by staff. Not a criticism of the property. Accessing the property requires about 10 minutes of steep climbing from the central square. As the guest house is built into the hill, be prepared for navigating stairways to access the rooms. It's not a problem for the fit!

I loved the quiet location and the tranquility of the hotel. My room was enormous with not just the large bedroom but a nice separate sitting area that looked out onto the little garden area inside the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable. Some reviews mention water supply or pressure but one must remember that in Mexico, unless you are staying at an expensive, fancy and new hotel water pressure and hot water supply will almost always be an issue. I did not have issues with the water pressure or supply of hot water.

Perfect location, just 5 minutes walk to center. It’s uphill to return but not hard for anyone used to walking. Very cool on hot days, great terrace with views, serene and comfortable, drinking water provided, coffee, tea, etc… Host Paulina is wonderful! Only side note is water pressure not great, but wasn’t an issue for me-can still get a hot shower and with water usage an issue, I felt less guilty by using less water. I recommend and would stay again.

quaint and attractive. Well located. The walk into town was steep but Guanajuato is all hills. After a couple of days I started to get acclimatized to the elevation and hills. Paulina was very helpful and enjoyable. The bed and pillows could have been more comfortable but for the price they were okay:)

Casa Azul is an absolute 10 out of 10. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by its grand, historical charm—like stepping into a beautifully preserved villa from another era. Paulina, the gracious proprietor, made our stay even more special by upgrading us to the balcony room, which was simply fabulous. The old-world elegance, combined with a luxuriously comfortable king-size bed, made for an unforgettable experience. Mornings were a delight as we sipped coffee on the rooftop terrace, taking in the breathtaking views of Guanajuato. While some street noise was noticeable due to our balcony-facing room, it was a small trade-off for such a central and vibrant location. Situated just uphill from the historic center, Casa Azul offered the perfect balance of convenience and tranquility. The walk back home was a bit of a workout, but after indulging in Guanajuato’s incredible cuisine, it felt like a rewarding way to end the evening. Overall, Casa Azul is a stunning, well-maintained property, but beyond its beauty, what makes Casa Azul truly special is Paulina. Her kindness, graciousness, and genuine love for her guests make this more than just a place to stay—it’s an experience filled with warmth and care.
