Black Isle Hostel

It was good enough for a day or two. It is a hostel not a 4* hotel. Entrance porch was not clean. First impression was not good. But the hostel was ok.

The location is great and useful. The breakfast is decent with a lovely view of the harbor. I cannot believe they charge as much as they do for the facilities they provide, let alone to still sleep next to 3 strangers. Spiders in every area plus in each corner above my bed. The sink is where the lid of a toilet goes and 8 inches big. The room felt constantly dirty. There is no kitchen, microwave, fridge, or anything to store food so you have to go to the grocery store 3x a day as there’s no way to even keep a sandwich. No window and constant musty/moldy smell. No chair and you can’t sit up in your bed so other than showering and sleeping, you can’t really hangout in your room. I just sat outside until I was ready to sleep. Honestly so pissed they charged this much money.

Hostel was not clean. The room was opposite a restaurant with the air conditioning pointed straight at the hostel window, it was smokey and smelly at night. A streetlight was flickering in front of the hostel window all night long

The establishments didn't seem to have enough ventilation and as such there was a lot of humidity and a strong smell of mold both in our dorm room and in the rest of the building (hall, utility rooms etc).

The window in my room needed repair and couldn't close fully, which made it chilly at times. Also the toilets and showers could use better lighting

Good facilities, clean helpful staff. The room (dormitory) and fellow guests were fine. The location was ideal for early morning trip to a local event. All to do with location again - it is city centre, and was very noisy outside on Saturday evening/night. I was getting up early on Sunday for a cycling event and didn't get much sleep as a result of the noise in the city centre.

It was very cozy and comfortable and the kitchen was okay. The room for eating and hanging out was very big and comfortable. Check-in was a bit confusing at first but worked very well and they were there for me immediately even though i arrived very late. The showers did not have a temperature setting so depending on the shower you pick it was cold or a bit too warm (for me) Someone stole my food from the fridge (not hostels fault obviously but still sad and never happened anywhere else before)

The facility was fine, as previously… The staff reception person lied directly to my face and in front of my friend by misrepresenting the fact that he would not be able to give me a refund without 24-hour notice…He said, “Well, because you’re a nice lady, I’ll make an exception, knowing full well that the refund would never happen…I’d be gone…and his lie would be supported by the team…How RUDE!!!

Great location, close to the bus station. Perfect for a short stay. Would book here again.
