Palmera Old City

Great value for the price and the staff is exceptional, the receptionists are incredibly friendly and helpful, also speak good english. The breakfast ladies are incredibly hospitable and kind. Would gladly come back.

The room was cold, heater never really worked well. Nobody passed to clean up the trash bins (bed linnen ok not to be changed in 4 days, but a little clean up sounds like basic)

Its a small hotel. Well its old area very near to all famous attractions.

Location was ok Very basic hotel and for the price we paid we could’ve stayed in a much better place. Rooms were small - and although there were rooms available they didn’t offer us a bigger if travelling with group and want to share a room.

Ayia Sofia is nearby, but the path to the sights lies through a steep climb. The room is cleaned every 5 days. The consumables and towels are changed at the same frequency. Soap was never added, although they asked for it because it was over. The new linen and towels were stained. There is no noise isolation. Sometimes it stinks from the bathroom. They gave us a very strange number, a photo of which is not on the booking, there is one tiny window in it. Because of this, sunlight literally does not enter the room. A small bathroom The neighborhood is very strange if you turn the wrong way you can find yourself on a dark gloomy street with scattered garbage. Sometimes it stinks on the streets (again because of garbage). Of the nearest transport, only a bus running on a strange route and a not very popular tram line with train intervals of half an hour.

The staff of the kitchen didn't understand any word of English what is very uncomfortable and was not friendly in the beginning.

The location was very convenient, and the breakfast was okay, but there was no choice. The receptionist was very kind Room a bit small, one of the lady of the staff wasn't really kind and didn't speak a single word of English. We stayed 5 nights, and even by hanging the hanger for room cleaning, we needed to wait to be asked. Just a really small trash. No blanket, just a single sheet.

Breakfast was plated rather than buffet, but there was plenty. Breakfast staff had limited English, but this was not really a problem. The room was very small and needed a rack for a suitcase (it ended up on the floor).

Palmera Old City was my first stop after landing in Istanbul. Omer went above and beyond, offering to arrange transportation from the airport and was of great help during my stay (pointing out places to visit). The rooftop terrace was beautiful, and a very special way to be introduced to the city.

The staff was really friendly and helpful in emergency situations (eg. they helped me find the phone I had forgotten in the taxi). They also made sone excellent suggestions in terms of what to visit and even gave us a transport card. The first night we arrived, we were asked us to stay at a different hotel because our room wasn't ready. Bear in mind I was pregnant at the time and we got there after 1 a.m. The first room we stayed in had an emergency exit that faced the train station with a huge gap between the threshold and the door - I don't even want to imagine what creatures can get in your room at night during summer days! Needless to say, we heard all the train announcements from the platform. Back to our regular hotel, we finally checked in after noon on the second day. The breakfast was a major disappointment for me, but even my husband got bored of it after a couple of days. I was expecting a Turkish style buffet as shown in the pictures, but was served instead exactly the same minuscule meal each morning (as shown in the picture). There was no option to have a fried or boiled egg instead! The room had absolutely no view, was tiny and you couldn't reach the toilet without closing the door due to lack of space. There was not attempt to clean the room or change the towels during our 4 nights stay.

Palmera hotel is managed by the very helpful Mr Omer, always reachable even when we messaged him at 1am. All the staff are courteous and helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast is nice... ask for their Turkish coffee. A short walk from the main sights and tram station, the hotel is also in a quiet area not far from shopping areas.

Excellent family run hotel. Extremely clean, great central location. The room was double glazed and the street was quiet both day and night. Breakfast was a highlight - the menemen eggs cooked by the grandmother were the best I’ve ever had in Turkey- Would recommend for a no frills friendly stay.
