When large cars drove by on the street it shook my whole bunk in the men’s dormitory, the wifi was also somewhat spotty, and the bottom bunks had unfortunately low hanging ceilings.

Friendly and helpful staff. Good location.
-
Wonderful stay that’s very close to the ferry port, and a great value for the facilities it had to offer. A very communal vibe with a wonderful rooftop area to hangout at.
-
Also met a lot of people, so the hostel is pretty social, though there are no events, so just make sure to chat to people.
-
Very nice hostel! They also have dinner available and a rooftop with a view of Sakurajima. Walking distance to shopping a restaurants. Kitchen was well stocked - we had everything we needed! There is some road noise at night - ear plugs would be good to have!
-
Excellent location close to the ferry terminals for Sakurajima and the southern islands. Classic hostel vibes that attract interesting travellers and good value for a stay in Kagoshima. Would stay again. Kitchen space is a little limited, so it’s best to choose meals that don’t need too much prep and hang out in other places (e.g. rooftop). Rule to keep dorm lights on until 11pm seemed a bit unnecessary when guests are capable of doing this themselves when everyone is ready to go to sleep.

Nothing

The owner was pretty rude and so not welcoming. The WiFi is shit in the rooms, and even tho we took a private room we had to share the toilet and shower with everyone in the hostel, this hostel only has two showers

The staff was extremely friendly and even fed me during a Typhoon. The Thai food is excellent, and the owner is hilarious. Location is central to Tenmonkan, the Aquarium, Sakurajima Ferry, and many excellent restaurants. Definitely ask the staff for food recommendations, as they are familiar with the area. Come ready with interesting stories, and you will undoubtedly make friends! P.S. The owner is proficient in English, so do not worry about language barrier.

The male staff member wasn’t polite and despite living in Japan for 4 years this is the first time I felt they were rude just because I was a foreigner. they used a rather poor analogy in their signage of saying that wearing sandals/even slippers inside was equivalent to getting raped. Also people constantly had all their clothes hanging up that it made it frustrating to get to/out of my bed without immediately getting a face full of clothes

room, location

The location was within an easy walk to a convenience store and the ferry dock to Yakushima, which was our main reason for staying here. It was also within walking distance (about 20 minutes) to the ferry that goes to Sakurajima, which we also visited. The price was definitely good and the guy at the front desk (manager/owner?) was friendly and spoke some English. We were able to get a private room, which I think was a good decision. Things seemed pretty clean. The roof top lounge area looked nice. This property is old and a bit worn, but it is a hostel so this is expected. There was a small lounge in the reception area and a rooftop lounge. However, when we were there, we only saw a couple of people and, that night at least, there wasn't a social vibe. The sink in the hallway for brushing teeth (the area with the private rooms) was a bit weird, but clean enough. Toilet and shower rooms were private.

Kind staff, spacious bunk beds and clean

The staff was super friendly and everyone could speak very good English. The food was amazing as well ! The only flaw of the hotel is that the beds are very thin, not that comfortable, especially for tall persons ...

I’m glad that I chose this hostel. I was very happy to get a bottom bunk.

great value, staff allowed me to choose my own bed (out of the available beds)

Fairly good location and has an English speaking staff. The female dormitory room has a lady who seems to stay there long term. She hangs all her clothes around her top bunk bed, and the room sort of smells. The worst thing is we are not allowed to set alarm in the morning and nor could we switch on room light, although it is 9-10am in the morning. It is ridiculous and unreasonable in my opinion.
