Breakfast was delicious, hotel suite was large and very comfortable. Pajamas and traditional Japanese clothing were really nice.

The staff and whole as ambience were excellent, and we throughly enjoyed our stay.

The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Our room was really special and relaxing. The breakfast was delicious. I would come back to Kanazawa just to stay here again.

Peaceful, spacious, amazing food, friendly staff. Uchida welcomed us warmly; we all loved her energy. Garden has mosquitos, but you can appreciate the view from inside. They provide a citronella candle and bug spray.

Breakfast was delicious, as were the other snacks and beverages they provided. The staff was so friendly and kind. The in-room bath was lovely. I loved the way the room smelled (japanese incense) when we walked in. The service was wonderful (they helped us make a dinner reservation and recommended a restaurant). There were mosquito nets over the bed, which they said were just decorative. We removed them because we preferred an open-air experience. Unfortunately we both got mosquito bites! There may have been a misunderstanding due to the language difference (though my husband speaks some Japanese!), but the "decorative" description seemed a bit misleading. Not a huge issue though!

Our host was very friendly and welcoming. This was one of the more expensive places we stayed wile in Japan, but thought the cost was well worth the experience. We ate a kaiseki style dinner at their restaurant across the street. The dinner was exceptional. The private onsen was fantastic and just as pictured. Our host gave us very comfortable yukatas to wear if we wished and taught us how to properly wear/tie them. We were served a traditional Japanese breakfast that was quite good. Overall, I would highly recommend this place to someone staying in Kanazawa. It was a fantastic experience and well worth the cost.

Staying at Machi no Odoriba was a truly memorable experience. We would like to warmly thank our hosts for their incredible hospitality. They introduced us to a charming atmosphere where even something as simple as a cold coffee became a delightful discovery. We highly recommend adding the dinner with the Chef to fully complete your stay. Nothing. Every details were great.

Traditional and authentic Japanese atmosphere. The welcome and orientation to the machiya by Ms. Uchida was so graciously done. The furo (onsen bath) was heavenly. Breakfast was delicious. The garden was relaxing and beautiful. Dining at the sister restaurant, Hitotoki, was a culinary experience not to be missed! There was no down side about Machi no Odoriba. Only issue during our short stay was that 2 taxis could not find it and just let us out in the middle of a residential area. Thank goodness there were good people who helped us find the machiya. Perhaps the machiya could provide specific directions to guests.

Outstanding, every bit of it! The staff were incredible— Uchima, thank you for your care during our stay. You were a large part of what made our time there so special. Our room (more like full house!) was a dream. We haven’t stopped talking about it. We looked forward each morning to breakfast (the noodles I dream about— and definitely purchase their local soy and ponzu sauce to take home with you). The bath is cozy, the heated floors, honestly every single detail was carried out with the utmost care. Since returning home after a month in Japan, I think the most of our time spent in Kanazawa and specifically our stay at Mochi No Odoriba. If we can make it back to Japan this will be a MUST on our itinerary. Our memories of staying here we’ll truly cherish forever. Thank you!! Nothing!

Staff were super amazing. So welcoming and made everything more special. Property was in a good location for us and was a comfortable stay.

Amazing stay! Would recommend to anyone staying in Kanazawa. Firstly, the staff is absolutely lovely and took a lot of time explaining how everything works, and offering us welcome drinks and sweets. Secondly, the accommodation is a traditional house, with the bedroom located in the old tea room and with a private onsen. Everything is magical and each room was a delight to discover with many nice details. Don’t miss their breakfast, or you’ll miss the full Japanese experience!

We were so happy with our stay here. The staff were very nice, attentive and helpful. They explained the facilities very thoroughly, answered all of our questions and gave us nice recommendations. The space was amazing and exactly what we wanted from a Ryokan experience, and the bath was lovely. The special breakfast and coffee were delicious. If I'm lucky enough to be able to visit Kanazawa again, I will definitely want to stay here again. The only thing I could mention as a very minor negative is depending on what you want to do in Kanazawa the location may not be the ideal for everything you want to see, if you want things to be in a short walking distance. However overall it is still in a good location and lots of interesting places are very accessible.

This is the perfect place to stay if you want to experience a traditional ryokan, but with some modern touches. The private onsen is large and can actually pipe in real hot spring water in addition to regular hot water. The breakfasts are delicious and come straight to the ryokan from a partnered restaurant on the opposite side of the street. The staff are lovely and were very communicative before and during our stay. They even booked a restaurant for us, which I couldn't have done myself. As a relatively tall man 6'2 (188cm) I had to duck my head down whenever I was moving around the room. The ceilings are all high enough, but the doorways are about 5'9 (175cm) and I cracked my head a few times over the two days. I don't think this is a fault, it's just something to be aware of if you are taller than the doorway height.
