Unique hotel with lots of character

rooms were exceptionally clean and comfortable. The breakfast was wonderful, the staff was so friendly and helpful. locaion of hotel was perfect, a short walk to the temples, easy access to public transportation. spa availability was limited, always booked and full

Minor quibble, but the rooms use physical keys, rather than card keys, so we only received 1 key per room. However, the key was also require to turn on the power to the room, leaving it in a slot near the door. When one of us had to leave the room, we couldn't take the key with us, otherwise the power would go out, so they'd always have to knock or hit the doorbell. We traveled with 3 kids, who stayed in their own room. The rooms were not large enough to accommodate 5. While the hotel were able to place us in adjacent rooms without a problem, the 1 key per room was inconvenient, since we, as parents, were not able to have a copy of a key to go in and out to take care of the kids, and had to rely on knocking/doorbell, which wasn't always the best when trying to get the kids ready early each morning. Would have also been nice to have a door connecting the 2 rooms, but since the hotel is actually an old dormitory, I can understand that limitation.

Facilities, services and location. Very convenient location, at cross street of Higashi Hongan-ji. One stop away from Kyoto Station. Beautiful and spacious suite with outdoor bath. Staff were very responsive, made a few dinner reservations for us as per our request.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel! Everything about it is perfection. Amazing location.

The breakfast was excellent. I also loved how many thoughtful touches they included, like giving yukata robes and slippers in my daughters' sizes. The complimentary self-serve bar downstairs was also such a nice touch. I also LOVED my massage experience at the spa. I also loved the little vestibule area outside the room which was great for keeping our shoes and stroller. Another great touch was being able to watch the kintsugi artists in the lounge area. The beds were a little on the hard side, but I understand that that's just by my Western standards, so wasn't a huge issue. I also wish some of the cultural classes (origami etc) happened more often -- we weren't able to fit it into our schedule but would have loved to try one if we could have.

Absolutely amazing, location wise, right next to a rail line. Room is extremely comfortable with a modern touch to traditional Japanese furnishings. The staff phenomenal, providing the upmost care for any of their guests from afar or close at home. Everything about this place made you feel taken care of. Nothing at all

The hotel is beautiful with a very Kyoto like atmosphere - calm, relaxing & natural. The rooms are super comfortable & the staff very courteous & friendly. Our favorite part was the free flowing bar & coffee shop at the lobby. Everything was great, the hotel has great connectivity but is a little farther from Gion & Kawaramachi area. We walked it or took the bus. The hotel does not have any wellness center.

I cannot say enough about the staff at Hotel Kanra Kyoto. From check in to check out they are 5 *. The lodging is beautiful with many cultural touches. The location is perfect. We had room service and were thrilled with the excellent meal. I had an unfortunate accident requiring assistance from the front desk with a wheelchair, and many changes in our itinerary. My husband spent hours with staff going above and beyond to assist us. I hope to return to Hotel Kanra Kyoto to personally say thank you. Nothing!

the best hotel we stayed in during our japan trip! everything from the room's interior to the staff's service to the facilities (lounge, spa etc) was amazing

Everything, no European or American hotels can compare to Japanese professionality and respect. We actually decided to stay 4 extra nights at Kanra. 10 min walk from Kyoto station, wuiet location next to a beautiful temple. Large room and bathroom, beautiful interior design, amazing service, luxurious spa, ... Breakfast was great but expensive.

The rooms in this property were lovely. beds were large and comfortable and we had a family room with 2 more mattresses on the floor and a little table area to snack. It was all very nice. The lobby was great, wine and beer available for free during a daily HH and juice and coffee anytime. They also have a breakfast buffet downstairs that was nice. Not our favorite buffet of the places we visited but it did the trick. Overall, a really lovely hotel in a very convenient location! We were even able to walk to the main Kyoto train station and dinner from our hotel, but it was just far enough away that it still felt quiet and peaceful when we were there. Wish the breakfast buffet was in a nicer location of the hotel, it's in the basement so kind of a bummer to have breakfast without looking out to daylight, but really the hotel itself is lovely and our room was incredible, so this is just a small thing.

Exceptionally smooth process from start to finish. Very clean room, amenities, and the complimentary coffee/drink lounge was a nice touch. Extremely convenient location, right next to train line, plenty of restaurants, etc.

Beautiful spaces. Well appointed.
