The Japanese breakfast was a nice change of pace from convenience store breakfast. The rooms were comfy and the bathrooms were clean. The location away from the city center made for a nice atmosphere, though admittedly a little hard to get to. That we couldn’t stay for a couple more nights

Breakfast and tea were very good! The location is very close to Ritsumaken University, which is why I picked it. Thank you for the traditional Japanese clothes too. :) I didn’t know how to turn the light off in my room. The light is straight ahead.

Very authentic experience with great, kind staff. The Japanese style breakfast that was included and the lunch options were delicious! Cot style beds were a bit thin, and the rice grain pillow wasn’t very comfortable.

Loved the room, the smell of the wood and tatami mats and the super friendly staff. The Japanese breakfast was great. That we only booked one night stay!

Traditional ryokan with beautiful garden. The room is beautiful and the breakfast was excellent both Eastern and Western. The staff of the hotel were always very polite and kind.

Not much at all. Staff were pleasant but it's honestly hard to understand the ratings provided on this place. Our twin standard must have been a lot different to suites. Quite simply, it's grim. Really grim. And I'm not saying that lightly, it's actually a sh*thole. Where to start. THIS IS 100% A TOURIST TRAP. We stayed in Ryokan elsewhere, so absolutely no problem with sleeping on futons with tatami and using shared facilities. We stayed in small rooms elsewhere in Japan too, no problem with that if the facilities are good. This was bad though. Really bad. Especially for the price. Like it's actually dumbfounding how bad this is for the price. We paid the equivalent of ~US$210 per night and the shared facilities were worse than soviet hostels, far worse (yes, I've stayed in soviet hostels). The photos for this place are NOT of twin standard rooms and facilities, I can tell you that. Firstly, there is no internal access to the reception area or 'onsen' area, you have to go around to what looks like a service entrance and then up a really steep flight of stairs, staff don't help you with bags at all. If it was only that then I'd live with it. Second, the rooms are tiny, as in the twin futons take up all of the space Third, the futons are covered in stains and mattresses are tatty with holes (see photo) Fourth, the shared bathroom is honestly what you'd expect to find at a public park. Dire. Fifth, there is no common space for guests to sit and relax. I asked to be able to sit in the seated area next to the reception with my laptop and was told this wasn't allowed. Sixth, the pillows are the size of an A4 sheet of paper and half filled with rice. If you like a terrible nights' sleep and hate your money then this is the place for you. We spent as little time as humanly possible at the accommodation because it was so uncomfortable and frankly made us mad that we'd been swindled for so much for so little. DO. NOT. BOOK. You've been warned.

It was very clean and quiet, the room was comfortable, I slept so good. The food downstairs was amazing. I had the dinner and breakfast and it was delicious I almost wanted to order more

This ryokan was a wonderful experience. All the staff we interacted with were attentive, respectful, and kind. We looked forward to our interactions with them at meal times. The traditional breakfasts and dinners we had here were incredibly delicious, and there was a lovely garden alongside the dining area that we got to admire during every meal. We so looked forward to starting and ending our days eating amazing food, while enjoying an amazing garden view and pleasant conversation. The facilities were all clean and fresh linens were left outside our room every morning. The ryokan is accessible via a local Kyoto bus route, and the bus stop is only a couple minute walk away. We had an absolutely great time here, and would love to return one day, if we are ever able to.

The staff at this place is extremely friendly. Very accommodating. Japanese breakfast was amazing. Property is a little far away. Great to get away from the noise and hustle and bustle, just get concerned on find ing a ride back to hotel if you are out late.

The breakfast was simple and perfect and the room was spacious and futon so comfortable. Getting into town was very easy with the bus as well as coming back to the property. I had to get use to only one shower on one floor with multiple people, but it was all apart of the experience.

After the hustle and bustle that Tokyo offers, we wanted to escape the city life and experience the quiet side of Japan. This was the perfect place. This traditional ryokan is in the country side within 10-15 minutes from Arashiyama's bamboo forest. It was everything we wanted and more, especially the garden.

Breakfast and landscape setting. Our corner room has a nice view Air conditioning need more servicing.

  • Engine customer Jul 2025

This place is really far from anything and really not the ryokan experience that we were looking for. Although the room was comfortable, it was not a good value.. way too expensive for what it offers. Location and space. By the pictures it seems to be really surrounded by nature and the “public hot bath” description is a bit misleading. We thought we would have access to an onsen or sento, but it was mainly an old public/shared bathroom. If you want to really experience a ryokan, with relaxing atmosphere, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Very pretty Japanese Garden and kind staff. The traditional breakfast was exceptional! It smelt very strongly of cigarette smoke in the main rooms and hallways which was our main issue. Our room was very small and I was under the impression that there was an onsen on sight which there was not.
