Very clean, very comfortable beds and nice sheets and pillows; very nice substantial Japanese breakfast, good coffee and tea. Plentiful water pitchers available in hall. One of us has a food allergy and they were very conscientious and careful about that which we appreciated. They provided umbrellas for us to use in the rain, which was great. Not kept up as well as should be, 3 of 4 double hooks for hanging clothes in room were half broken. These were plastic and very inexpensive so I don’t understand why they would not have been replaced. Sliding door came apart when we tried to close it (gently!), we put it back together; there was a piece of ragged duct tape over a switchplate at waist height by door, so very visible. Maybe covering a hole? Didn’t try to figure out why it was there. Thought they could have cut it neatly at least. From photos thought it would be more of a garden setting instead our window had many hanging electrical wires outside and looked into an ugly dirt lot across the alley. Just putting a plant there would have made a big difference. We expected to pay cash for local tax and for the breakfast. We were charged 4.5% to use a credit card for the room. I have been charged 3% before but 4.5% surprised me. Also, I didn’t remember seeing anything that said there was a fee for using a credit card or I would’ve been prepared to pay cash for the room as well. We interacted with three staff, two were very sweet and kind, but the owner was not.

As the bath is a shared bath, the men's section door tends to be left open, meaning the changing area is within view from the hallway, anyone using the bath would have to ensure the door is constantly closed properly.

Beautiful ryokan with good location. The staff is really nice and friendly. They even do my laundry for free. We loved everyday there. Thank you to the staff. Arigatou Gozaimasu!! Nothing

Really, nothing. It was very dilapidated. Torn screen in bedroom, faucet did not work, toilet area not good. All paper cups. This ryokan has seen much, much better days.

We really liked the vibe of the place, nice traditional Ryokan. Onsen was nice relax after long day. If you looking for quiet and extra comfy place, this is probably not the ideal option. You can hear everything, they start to clean in the morning which was also quite noisy. Bathroom and toilets are shared, they have Japanese and western toilets. Overall it was perfect experience for 3 nights.

Large tub. One bike to get around. Far from bus stops.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the sentō was soothing after long walking days, the staff is incredibly nice and helpful. Some facilities are a little old and could be renovated (shared sinks).

Oh, and the room had a Go play set. The facilities need some kind of renovation. It is clean but look.old.

What a wonderful Ryokan experience. It appears to be a family owned cozy Japanese Inn. Staff is very warm and friendly. They speak enough English to communicate with guests from all over the world. Rooms are small but clean and cozy. Toilets and Bathrooms are shared facilities. Location is not far away from Kyoto station (15-20min walk). I forgot to order dinner and breakfast when I made the reservation. Unfortunately could not rectify this on short notice.

This hostel is conveniently located near Kyoto Station and offers nice, decently sized rooms at a reasonable price. The building is definitely old-fashioned, but this only adds to its charm, giving guests the chance to enjoy a truly authentic Japanese experience. If you're a fan of brand-new, aseptic, soulless chain hotels, skip this place. But if you're looking for something authentic, book it right away nothing.
