The staff was great and location was good. There was some miscommunication regarding our booking, as we were under the impression that meals were included in the room rate. Overall, we found the property to be quite dated and showing signs of wear. While the staff was pleasant, the food did not meet our expectations and was one of the more disappointing aspects of our stay.

Clean, great location, beautifully designed and decorated

The private hot tub did it for us. It was large enough to fit both of us. Nice dinner and breakfast, a truly authentic experience/ I would recommend Nothing

Room was clean and cozy. We had been traveling over 22 hours and got in late, but the staff was very accommodating and we slept well. We missed the onsen because of our late arrival time; no fault of the facility, but were disappointed at not getting to use it.

This was living Japan from the roots. The on suit Onsen or Hot tub was not the only highlights, nor on the whole room; but the fact that you leave your choose outside the reseption, this was the highlight! This made us slip right into Japan. Can not think of anything that we did not like, it was too amazing to not like something. Even the location and outside surroundings were amazing.

Fast response to specific requests A little expensive like all other Ryokans.

Traditional style of the room with details. Clean Attentive stuff. Nice location NONE

The location was amazing and so many great activities around and the nature was beautiful. The aesthetic of the place was amazing as well and the breakfast was so good. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like

This unassuming traditional Japanese ryokan has a fabulous location in the Arashiyama region of Kyoto, steps from the river, mountains, bamboo forest and a variety of shops and restaurants. Rooms have views of the river or mountains, our room had an enchanting Japanese garden view. From the moment you enter this hotel, past the bamboo fountain, staff greets you and asks you to trade your shoes for slippers to be worn on site. The rooms feature futon style mats on the floor for sleeping, topped with the fluffiest duvets that felt like sleeping in a cloud. It was so quiet and peaceful, I slept deeply 10 hours the first night and my husband and children slept 12 hours! So restorative. We enjoyed the private onsen so we could soak in the hot mineral bath as a family; traditional onsen is available for nude bathing with genders separated. Absolutely loved everything about our stay especially the courteous and helpful staff. Wonderful.

We loved the location of the property. Everything was easily accessible within a 10-20 min walk. Very clean and kind staff. I think it was more related to me. The sleeping situation was on a futon. I have a hard time sleeping on hard surfaces so it wasn’t the most comfortable for me. A little sad the days we were there we didn’t experience the kaiseki dinner but it wasn’t a deal breaker at all.

The location was really good. Breakfast was very good. The onsen was really nice and clean Our room had very little natural light and a very funny smell. I had the feeling of being in a basement. I had to ask for table lights to read at night and for more pillows as we had only one pillow per person. Also the AC was noisy so we had to choose to hear the noise or to be too hot. It was really disappointing as we paid $1400 a night for the room. We expected a luxury room at that rate.

The service and location are good. The room is spacious This property is a bit dated but it’s clean. You can see the history of the carpet. Our private bath inside the room is not natural hot spring water but normal tap water instead. I only found out once I checkin. I had to pay extra for the private hot spring room in their basement which is a surprise. Also, my room included half board but the taste was not good. However the presentation is beautiful though.

Nature surroundings. Very helpful staff. Hotel very clean and comfortable. Dinner at hotel has to be booked in advanced. Surrounding shops closed early including food stores. Not sure why this time there is no matcha and traditional snack served in room after check-in.

The hotel is a traditional Japanese hotel located right by the river. The staffs were all super helpful, courteous and kind. They were all ready to help. If they did not understand my questions, they right away use "translation app" and got answers for me. We booked the traditional dinner and breakfast. It was absolutely fantastic. We also booked one hour of the private bath, I have two grown adult sons, and we wanted to experience the bath together. With the private hour, I was able to use the bath together with my family all wearing bathing suits. The location is centrally located without being right where all the shops. But shops, restaurants, temples, monkey park were all within 5-10 minutes from the hotel. It is absolutely perfect. I definitely will go back if I travel to Japan again, and I recommend this hotel to everyone. nothing
