The air conditioning didn't work. I went to the reception and the staff helped me with that. It's in Gion touristic area. This is not a hotel, despite being shown as such!!! This is sort of a prayer group estate, with the staff not speaking any basic English and not willing to help much if you don't speak Japanese. In addition, the room was very dirty and dusty. I really don't recommend this hotel and I'm very disappointed in this hotel. The breakfast was also very bad for Western guests, but at this point - what would you expect from a temple?

It's very peaceful, the location is outstanding, and the Onsen is beautiful and quiet. It's directly across from Chio-In and within walking distance of all of downtown Kyoto, the Temples, and the parks. I had a large room, and the hotel is very nice. The food's not that great.

What a beautiful property, the staff is very professional and cordial, there are Buddhist ceremonies taking place every morning and dawn that hotel guest can participate in, also there is an public bath operating in basement floor. The beds are a bit stiff and the beddings are oddly synthetic.

I like the public baths. Clean and relaxing rooms.

Breakfast was traditional Japanese, beautiful presentation. The location was beside the massive Sanmon Gate part of a large temple area, very quiet at night and within minutes of downtown Kyoto on foot. It was a bit of a walk from the train station which is the type of experience I enjoy and I had my suitcase delivered ahead of time which they so kindly had waiting for me in my room. The onsen although not a natural one was a fantastic way to end a long day of sightseeing. I also booked their traditional dinner which was a wonderful experience. It is obvious that temple worshippers choose to stay at this location. Praying could be heard within the building at times and you could set a morning wake up ring from your room if you wished to attend services at the Temple. My only observation would be that I missed having a piece of toast and jam in the morning. A few western items added to the breakfast choices would have been great but overall I would not hesitate to stay again at this excellent hotel.

Being close to the temple was great. Excellent service. Clean and peaceful onsen.

Nothing.

The morning ceremony and being able to see the temple grounds practically alone in the morning. Very special. Also, I liked the breakfast

Great location. Clean. Dinner and breakfast were great. Power outlets don’t work at night so phone didn’t charge.

Beautiful views Nothing

Loved the facilities. A special neighborhood! Enjoyed the Zen vibes and attached relationship to the temple.

Amazing location in Gion district and the bus stop is 10 minutes away. I love how clean the facility is and the friendly and helpful the staffs are. We attended the morning ceremony in the temple at 6:30am, and listening to the monks chanting was really peaceful and mindful experience! Would definitely recommend others to stay in here! Nothing

As a solo traveler, I loved the location at the foot of Chion-in Temple. The hotel is within walking distance to many temples and shrines and a perfect location for enjoying magical evening strolls in and around Gion. Everything was perfect! The room was quiet and comfortable. The hotel staff were all very friendly, courteous and helpful with all my requests. Every evening, I enjoyed a delicious kaiseki meal after a soothing soak in the hotel's serene public bath. I also appreciated attending the morning Buddhist ceremony, which was very special. I have already started recommending this hotel to my friends.

The morning meditation tour to the temple, CHIONIN, next door. It is still not that HOT since we leave at about 6am from the hotel. The big bath at basement was also nice and relaxing. Nothing.

Perfect distance to the heart of the Gion district. The Buddhist temple was amazing. Do yourself a favor and wake up to the alarm and go to the services. The chanting is hypnotically beautiful. No queen rooms were available when I booked, so we had to sleep apart.

Amazing temple hotel right on the premises of beautiful Chion-in temple. Room was clean and comfortable. We stayed at the traditional Japanese room. Breakfast was traditional Japanese and was very tasty. We attended the Buddhist ceremony which was such a unique experience! Grounds of the temple were so peaceful at 6am in the morning! We were able to enjoy the most crowded streets in peace after the ceremony ended! We had to set up the futon and make the bed ourselves! It would have been nice if they did it for us. Also, there was a big group of high school kids so Onsen use was restricted to limited hours to accommodate this group!

Super view

The 11pm curfew was strange l, I've never experienced that at a hotel outside of a hostel in a dangerous area and this definitely was not in a dangerous area. I assume it's to keep noise down from rowdy maybe inebriated guests after 11pm?

Awesome stay. The public bath and vegetarian breakfast were excellent bonuses. Would stay again!

The location was great! It was in an area that felt away from the denser urban places but it was very close to a few beautiful temples. The breakfasts were okay, some western foods would have been nice.
