Kyoto Guesthouse - Hostel

The stairs were very steep and difficult to scale with heavy luggage. It was also quite loud at times with the construction site next door operating during the day and thin walls between rooms.

Location to 7-11 & the local transit was great. No luggage storage so we had to spend $150 on another hotel room to store our luggage for 6 hours

Friendly staff and a great location. The Japanese style rooms were unique and a good experience. There is no luggage storage so we had to go to another hotel and pay for a room in order to store our luggage which cost us an additional $150. Doors to the Japanese style rooms were very loud, it was hard to keep quiet. Room walls are very thin and can hear talking throughout the entire place. Staff not available most of the time & response via email or WhatsApp took a few hours.

The traditional room was a nice experience. The bathroom was shared with 3 rooms but was very clean. The room had a lot of space and even two chairs so.you don't need to sit on the floor all the time. Also the location was great. Short walk to Omiya station and the tram. So very comfortable to get around. The room didn't have curtains. So it wasn't really dark at night and especially bright in the morning, because the sun rises very early in Japan because of the timezone.

The owner was very responsive and super helpful! We missed our luggage delivery and she offered her help to contact the Yamato Transport service. Thank you so much again for your kindness. The location is a bit far from the main touristic spots but we didn’t really mind walking.

The beds were very comfortable. The room was spacious. The shower and its amenities were great and perfect after long day. The location was great, staff was sweet, my friends and I had a wonderful time! There was one cockroach spotted.

Well, i am no Japanese expert. The tatami room is so bright in the morning. Lack of curtain. It took a while for the aircon to cool the room. But still, I love the location and the vibe.

The smell from the air conditioner made the room extremely uncomfortable- it had a musty/mold smell of body odour you could smell from the hallway with the door closed. We spoke with the owner and there was no solution- We were left trying to air the room out every day but it wasn’t much help the 5 nights we were there. Please be aware the walls are very thin. We could hear the guests in the adjacent room snoring through the wall as well as talking from the room down the hall. Any doors closing from other guest rooms/washrooms or talking of any kind are clearly heard. We were woken up multiple times a few nights in a row from people on the 1st or 2nd floor laughing and visiting loudly (we’re a young couple so we get it, but just to give you an idea of the sound travelling through the space). Please be aware the stairs are very steep and very narrow- our room (along with 2 others) was on the 3rd floor- there are not railings the entire way down (in certain spots on the walls) and guests often turn off the automatic lights so the stairs are very dark at night. We also had other guests trying to open our bedroom door multiple times during our stay- although there are room names by the doors (guest room with extra bed) perhaps room numbers would be clearer? There is also frosted glass on the room door with a gap around it that someone can see in. There is one female and one male toilet on the floor- FYI as you’ll be sharing with the other rooms on the same floor. The toilets and showers are very nice. For context we’re not fancy people and have stayed in all kinds of places. We can’t speak for the other rooms/suites and our review is for the room we stayed in.

Amazing stay! We love the experiences of Japanese style room. Staff was super friendly. Easy communication with host. We were allowed to leave travel bags before check-in, so we did not have to carry them around while visiting the area. The whole guesthouse was super clean! Location is also very good, easy to get to public transport, and easy to get to markets of several restaurants. Highly recommended!

The location is the best. The only one thing is that there are only stairs and they are very narrow, as we had 2 big luggage, it was a little trouble

The authenticity of the room. Tatami and futon bed.

Delightful spot. Modest, immaculate. Great heating. very atmospheric. Great authentic sleep on the floor, aka tatami mat experience. Affordable! Don't overpack as you will be climbing narrow stairway. We were on 3rd floor. Shared bath and shower no problem at all. Easy to find. Near two metros. Quiet, scenic side street. Near shopping and food. Very DIY. No set reception. Let yourself in by code. Great option! Little chairs on ground so we could sit with backs propped to read and plan would be nice addition. We brough our own coffee to make but not easy into tea cups. No communal kitchen due to fact it is very small space.
