The Property was very Nice A+ I wish the Onsen was in a more natural setting. The Onsen felt like it didn’t match the traditional theme of the ryokan.
-
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Supreme hospitality and service, clean and peaceful traditional ryokan.
-
Location was a bit odd down a small street but easy to find. Lovely staff. Great facilities and lovely small Japanese garden. So quiet even in the city. We liked it. Lovely onsen bath. Nothing. Just a bit of advice. Traditional ryokan food so if you're not au fait with it you might be a bit surprised at the tastes.

Breakfast was great. Tatami rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable. Laundry facilities available to guests. Great location. Several places are within walking distance. The hotel definitely has a dated vibe. The onsen was functional, but not somewhere where I'd want to hang out and relax in. I think overall the value for the cost was off especially compared to other hotels we stayed at in Japan. But maybe that is due to the fact your in the tourist town.

I loved the service, the family friendly atmosphere, the traditional Japanese feel, the breakfast was great. Overall, it was a great cultural experience. The tea ceremony was beautiful. The onsen was great and relaxing. the rooms were spacious, lot of light and very clean. I would stay here again. It was expensive.
-
Clean, convenient, convenient store close, personalized te ceremony, they have a bath in the ground floor, we even had a music performance. Beyond my expectations! Can’t think of anything
-
The onsen was fine, just was thinking it would be more nature like and was more like a shallow hot tub. It was clean though.

This place has been the highlight of our trip! Anyone looking for a peaceful and warm getaway should come here. The staff were incredibly welcoming and made us feel at home. We were blown away by the quality and the amount of thought put into everything.
-
Loved the location, the onsen, the free drinks, the excellent service. The breakfast was also terrific, so much food!
-
The room was very comfortable. The staff were so helpful and kind. As we left they took our luggage out and waved as we left. We enjoyed the tea ceremony on property. They had activity suggestions Nothing
-
The staff were very friendly and pleasant Very overpriced. If I had paid $300 a night I’d have been ok with it, but I paid over double that. The room had a circa 1980 TV and cheap fittings. The bathroom had RV type fittings. Plastic and low quality. It was clean, but the facility needs a major renovation if they are going to ask the price that they are asking.

Exceptional service. Fantastic place to stay. Nothing. Everything was perfect.

The ryokan was phenomenal, rooms were spacious clean & have private bathroom. The garden was beautiful, they also offer different activities such as tea ceremony. Surprisingly the futon was comfortable I would say one of the most comfortable hotel beds i have experienced. They accidentally throw my sensodine toothpaste. They probably think tube was empty. Not big deal, they have toothpaste in sachets but I only use specific one because of teeth sensitivity. But overall experience was top tier, would definitely recommend this ryokan.

We are so glad we chose the Nishiyama Ryokan. Everything was wonderful. Our room was spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed the whole experience: the tea ceremony, games in the lounge, the Japanese breakfast, using the bath every evening. Most notable was the personalized service. Everyone was friendly and helpful with navigation instructions and arranging taxi pickup.

Traditional, cozy, friendly atmosphere. The staff embraced our two rambunctious boys. It was the highlight of our trip to Kyoto. We wished we had more time to spend there!

Service was good. Staff very friendly. Just not worth what we paid. We got the "Ryokan experience". Sleeping on a mattress on the floor was ok at best (a bit hard sleeping on the side, and hard to get up from). No where to really sit (floor chair was not comfortable). I hate to say it but I was wishing we stayed at the Hilton. We stayed at some 5star hotels on the trip - all of them were better than this. Again, not terrible - just not worth the price. And don't waste your money on the breakfast - it was nice but not at all worth it. Said above
-
Great location. Nice lobby. Fantastic staff. Great breakfast. The temperature of the hot tub was not hot enough for me.
-
It was a beautiful peaceful ryokan that we loved. Nothing.
-
A very comfortable place to stay and centrally located to walk to Imperial Park, Gion, and the Nijo Castle. The breakfast was amazing and different each of the three mornings we were there. Okami-san (manager) gave us a tea ceremony. There was also a walking tour of the area. Both these were free and really fun. We'll definitely stay again. Everything was excellent. I wouldn't change anything.
