The location and the bed were super comfy and the staff was also great, really friendly! I enjoyed it very much The space in the shared room

Room was simple, clean and spacous. Great locaiton and decent price. We were only there to sleep and were out exploring kyoto for most of the time so it was perfect for us. The bunk-bed kreeked a little but if thats just me splitting hairs. I was a little skeptical about shared bathrooms but they were kept very clean.

You have a very private pod with your own locker space as well in the room! I LOVED the shampoo and conditioner provided I wish I knew what brand it was!!! The bathrooms seemed well kept and it was nice having a hair dryer! I missed breakfast but I heard it was only toast so kinda disappointing. You have to pay for disposable slippers and other small amenities so maybe back or buy before hand!

Clean and quite modern but with 37 € per night for a dormitory bed a little bit to expensive for us. Dishes gets cleaned by the stuff and the service was better then in most other hostels, so the price is probably justified. Though for backpackers rather expensive

The breakfast was only toast and jam so wasn’t really a breakfast. The hostel was very clean and nice inside. The rooms and toilets were clean as well. They had dishes and pots to cook. The common areas was nice The staff were a bit not friendly. I understand the staff needs to clean and prepare the other beds after checkout. But in all the hostel is stayed at I never experienced such disregard for other guests sleeping in the room. They cleaned the dorm room one morning and were extremely loud. Talking and laughing with each other at 10am. The moved my current to wake me and give me a clean towel. They left all the lights on and door open once they were done. I explored Kyoto during my last day after checkout when I came back to the hostel I grabbed my charger and tried to charge my phone in the lobby and they would not let me stay inside to charge my phone. All other hostel I’ve staid at are more than okay with you charging your phone in the lobby. The breakfast wasn’t really a breakfast just toast

This is an excellent hostel in the heart of Kyoto, close to the train line. We walked up from Kyoto station. The rooms were neat and clean. The beds were super comfy, got a room with 4 beds , bunk bed style. The hotel staff was super nice as well. There is tea/coffee and breads server in the morning ( i would not call it breakfast :) ) . Nice coffee shop just down the road. On a minor note, the room was really small and did not have enough hooks / shelves to put stuff. In such a small space, you really need to optimize every inch of space.

It’s a great hostel. Super clean and location is very good.

It was pretty clean and the place feels new. It’s not close to the main attractions but there are bus stations nearby. Check-out is at 10 am, but guests are only allowed to use the common area until midday. I asked if I could stay just half more hour max (in the common area) to finish my work, and they said no. Breakfast is only bread, jam, and tea or coffee (you’re allowed max one coffee per day, which is another strict rule they have). I heard a staff member and a guest yelling at each other for like half an hour, which was a bit uncomfortable. Lastly, another girl and I discovered that we had paid three times more than walk-in guests. I extended my stay in Kyoto but booked a different hostel that was much more comfortable, welcoming, with a great location, and, surprisingly, cheaper.

Very good location about a mile from Kyoto train station and 10 minutes further walk to downtown main shopping boulevard, from which it is easy to catch busses to numerous places of interest. I’ve stayed in a lot of hostels in dorms. I loved the very comfortable wider than average beds at the R Star, and also loved the feeling of privacy afforded by the “boxcar” style beds with curtains to completely close off the space. The bedding was also nice. The room is kept slightly cool at night so my bed space didn’t feel stuffy. The hostel staff were very helpful with directions and information about how to use public transportation. The second floor common area is spacious, clean and has coffee and tea available at all times. The hostel was very clean. I would definitely stay here again. A bit pricey for a hostel.

A bit expensive for the hostel.

They offer breakfast, though it's just bread jam and butter still I liked it.

Location, close enough to the center and quality shopping but far enough from the crowds. Very clean, no shoes from the entrance. Great kitchen/relax area. Large room. Overall a great place to stay. Here are some thoughts to improve the stay. Room would benefit from adding some place where to hook towels, beauty, etc. Entrance needs a stool or two to help people when putting on shoes. The bunk bed squeaks every time the person in the top moves. Walls are very thin and you can hear neighbours snoring.

The Kitchen is fully equipped The included breakfast is missing something else beyond just bread

Breakfast could be better

Great location and staff was very kind The bed was a bit firm, and my room faced the side of a building. My window was facing a wall, so the room was very dark
-
That was perfect Everything was fine

Very clean! I like that you get slippers and free breakfast. A great, sizable locker for my things too. It's not a party hostel, but it's a nice, peaceful stay on a solo trip.
