Everything about the property we loved! When one arrives, it is Shoes off right away as you slip into Hotel slippers. You step through a portal into Japanese Culture and Hospitality. Every Staff member is freindly and helpful. The entire Hotel seems to be renovated and the ambiance is serene yet inviting. There are many Lobby Spaces in which to relax, and the traditional Onsen is has both inside and outside areas, so there is lots of room for solitude. The bedding, the Yukatas, the fabulous private onsen in our bathroom are all top quality. We stayed for three nights and our room was on a corner, so very light and spacious complete with Tatami floors which are so warm and comforting to walk upon. This Hotel is not huge nor too small either. It has a Boutique Luxury appeal. Coffee in the Lobby is a nice touch. We enjoyed its proximity to the Rottenburo Park just minutes away and the walkability to everything else. They offer a complimentary shuttle to and from the bus station. Plenty of umbrellas to borrow if it rains and all other hotel amenities required for an excellent stay. There is literally nothing to fault. The only issue here is that they do not aspire to feed Vegetarians in their meal program, so we did not participate in the restaurant. I do not fault them for this, and realize that the level of perfection and service that is required for Japanese Cuisine is intricate and complicated. We knew this going in, so we ate our meals in other places, albeit difficult in Kusatsu with its very mountain and meat oriented cuisine.

The unit has a mini kitchen and a genuine Japanese tea pot with tea cups and superb tea in the room...also coffee. We basically moved in for 5 nights and made it home. The windows open and there is a good mini split if needed. The staff were all fantastic and helped us out a lot. We loved the pajamas. We had many interesting talks with other clients in the small and friendly lobby. The location is on a quiet side street in a unique neighborhood. There is a traditional ceramic soaking tub with a shower which we enjoyed. Coffee is also in the lobby in the morning. The unit was a good size. This is a boutique hotel so if you want a version of Hilton or Marriott this is something very different, very Japanese and very special! The futon was a bit too hard for us...we are thin and senior. Maybe a 1 inch tempurpedic topper would be nice.

The staff was very friendly and the room was immaculately clean.

Just a lovely place. We walked to boutique shops and the main attractions - the trains and taxis took us to other places…

Staff was super friendly, welcoming and accommodating. There were little perks we appreciated, like fresh coffee beans and a pour-over system with the kitchenette, free bluetooth speaker, portable wifi device to take throughout the city, and Japanese bath salts for the luxurious tub. Not the fault of Tanakaya, but there was construction happening outdoors, so having the window open during the daytime wasn't comfortable because of the noise. This was a small thing, and not a big deal at all.

The hotel is new and the rooms are very spacious with sitting area,quite traditional vibes. The washer and the coffee station is extremely useful. Specially we thank Tanaka for all his efforts to make our stay comfortable. There are metro lines nearby and also they forward luggage

Hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. Place is very clean. The free wifi device to take along during the stay is a plus !!!. Coffee beans and tea is left in the room every day. Cookies on the first day. The room we picked had a washing machine which is nice while traveling for a long time. Overall it was a wonderful pick as it is peaceful and quiet inside while Kyoto is overcrowded with tourists. A heating element in the bathroom would make it more comfortable while showering or taking a bath. The traditional bathtub is nice as you are able to soak your body but if you are tall 5'10"+ (which most Japanese are not), the bathtub is too small. a few inches bigger tub would have fit in the space. There is an electric cooktop in the room (also a microwave and fridge) but no idea what that is for as there are no pots or pans in the room. There aren't even spoons or bowls in the room although the description says kitchenware. We wanted to have some yogurt and granola before starting our days (as we left around 5:30-6 am) to try to beat the crowds. We asked for spoons/bowls and although they gave us some spoons they didn't have any bowls and told us we could buy them at the convenience store.

Beds were comfortable. We chose the Japanese style room, with the low table and tatami mats, and that was very nice. Kitchen facilities were a small stove, a coffee maker, tea pot and water. The coffee was locally ground and was delicious every morning. Bathroom was good size, with the traditional tub that was a great soak after walking around Kyoto all day. Staff was helpful and friendly. It was a small hotel, only a few rooms, so not a big chain place. Exactly what we had hoped for. Room was pretty spacious, well lit and comfortable. Nothing - we loved it.

Wonderful helpful staff and a beautiful room

Honestly we loved everything about this hotel. They are so kind and always wanted to help. The beds are really comfy. We appreciated the two beds together that made one huge bed. The only negative for us was the TV. The tv is not functional from the bed. You would have to go into the small room they have set up Japanese style with cushions on the floor. Beautiful room but would have loved the tv on the wall adjacent from bed. After being out all day it’s nice to chill with Netflix.

The rooms are beautiful with a nice touch of living space and bedroom space. The hotel and staff is very accommodating with things available to use at the front desk (portable wi-fi, aromatic oil infuser nad much more). Business is run by very competent and respectful people. They showed us great respect by staying there and helping with anything we needed. They went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. I liked everything.
