The hotel staff was excellent. We were very excited about our stay. Room was clean and comfortable. We have a nice view from our apartment. It was very convenient that the hotel provides a shuttle service to and from Kyoto Station. We used it several times during our stay, and it made getting around much easier. The breakfasts are monotonous, and nothing has changed over the past four days, which is a little disappointing. Also, the room doors have some play in them, so whenever the neighbors close their doors, ours bangs loudly as well. This creates a sharp noise, especially in the morning when you’re trying to sleep, and it was quite disturbing.

There's a restaurant within the hotel that serves three meals a day, a tea bar where you could experience traditional Japanses tea, andthe hotel itself is beautiful and has a garden in the center. The staff help with shipping luggages to another city if that's necessary. The only thing that could be better is the location. In Higashiyama itself is no problem, byt the closest station is kind of far away and requires a but of a walk.

Excellent location near shrines and the canal, subway close by, courteous staff, excellent breakfast, railway station shuttle. Hotel staff were kind enough to store our luggage prior to stay. Rather dim lighting around mirror area in room.

Peaceful, clean, free upgrade to a suite, always excellent service, great location (we were able to walk to the Philosopher's Path as well as the Gion district). Loved the bathtub in the suite, comfortable bed.

The location was definitely the best part of the hotel. It was very convenient and close to famous places in Kyoto such as Gion, and Higashiyama to name a few. Basically it (in terms of positives) unfortunately. Very disappointing , especially considering this is advertised as a 5-star Hotel. First of all, the cleanliness was very underwhelming.When we entered the room for the first time, we found belongings and drinks (soda cans) from previous guests hidden behind the curtains. This was extremely concerning because it clearly showed that the room had not been cleaned properly or thoroughly inspected.For Japanese hospitality standards, this was honestly very shocking and disappointing. Secondly, the service from the staff was far below what would be expected from a hotel of this level.We wanted help booking a geisha show event, but the website was entirely in Japanese, so we politely asked the concierge/front desk if they could assist us. We were simply told ”No” and that it was not her job. The way we were brushed off so easily was honestly surprising and made us feel like our request meant nothing. A 5 star concierge service indeed. Finally, the breakfast experience was extremely underwhelming. The breakfast buffet area felt like a multipurpose room with a few tables placed inside which resembles a at-home bachelor party rather than a 5 star hotel buffet. The food selection was very limited , and both the food and coffee were cold. Overall, it did not math the quality or standard we expected.

During the time of stay, facilities such as the gym and laundry room were unavailable. It would have been nice to know this before booking, especially for long stays.

Lovely hotel in excellent location within walking distance of many of Gion's sites. We stayed in one of the beautiful and spacious Shirakawa Suites and absolutely loved the Japanese aesthetic of the room. If you are looking to experience something other than Western style hotel rooms, this is definitely for you. The Japanese breakfast was fabulous! We look forward to staying here again the next time we visit Kyoto.
