Daiya Ryokan

Clean, near train station, very traditional loved it.

You need to know what you are signing up for, the futons are thin, facilities are a bit dated and the host was very helpful and friendly during our stay.

The owner and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We loved everything about the place. We found it very comfortable and homey. If you want to experience a very classic Japanese “Ryokan”, this is the place for you. It’s so much nicer for us compared to the boring hotels…We would love to come back and stay longer next time in Kyoto. Probably their toilets need a bit more cleaning.

You kinda get what you pay for, I likely wouldn't stay again if I had other options but it served its purpose for my trip! I arrived right after check in time was supposed to have started, but nobody was there. I tried searching around for 5-10 minutes with no luck. I only had a backpack with me so I just went on with my day and came back later, but if I had full luggage, that would've been a real pain.

The room was spacious and the mattresses were surprisingly quite good, so we didn't really mind not having an actual bed. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There's only one bathroom for many rooms, which we expected to be an issue, but it was always free when we needed it, not sure if we just got lucky. Still, the bathroom was the only thing that was lacking a bit in cleanliness, both the shower room and the toilet room. Also, not really that much of a negative, but it should be noted that shoes are not allowed inside the building, so guests have to take them off at the entrance and leave them there.

Great location close to a temple and Kyoto station. Very affordable. The keys can unlock any door, and this is a big security concern. The garden is not really usable. The bathroom upstairs has a very bad smell. The sinks in the hallway are difficult to use.

We booked this facility because of great location, local onsen and low prices. These conditions were fulfilled. When we came in the our room, the my son raised the mat on the wall. Two bugs were there and started to run away. Another bug was hiding under futon. That was huge disappointment. Even shared areas and toilets looks like was built 80years ago and not reconstructed or improved from that time. Even walls were dirty because of touching by visitors.

Location only. Where do I start....This has to be the filthiest place I've stayed at in Japan over the course of 4 years. Front door open all hours of the night, no front desk at all. To start with, couldn't figure out how to even check in. Rang the bell, no one answered, no staff in sight. Had to call the number from the website for someone to show up. The room itself was a private room, paying 17,000 yen for a single night and it was dirty. Dust everywhere, clearly not cleaned between uses. Trash beneath furniture. Stained futons. Peeling walls, visibly damaged furniture / walls. Futons grossed me out you could see the stains. The bathroom was the worst part. Nasty smelling. Finicky lock on the second floor, no outside lock to the door, but a urinal outside the stall, so any man could enter while you're using the bathroom and you could walk out of the stall to see someone using the urinal. Unsafe. The showers were the absolute worst part. The dirtiest shower I've seen in my life. Faucet was not even set into the wall properly, mold everywhere. Awful. Truly awful. The worst Ryokan I've ever stayed in. Owner was nice but that's about all. Could barely understand him and I'm fluent in jp. I do not recommend this place, absolutely not worth the price Advertised as a Ryokan but it's definitely more like a bad shared hostel worth 3k a night max.

The cost and the location cannot be beat. You get what you pay for.

Ten minute walk from Kyoto central station and very easy to navigate the area! The owner is very nice and if you know Japanese he’s happy to chat. There’s a small communal kitchen and a washing machine for use, so very convenient if you’re looking to pack light or want more control over your diet. No complaints :)

The location was amazing!

Very good location near a Lawsons and walking distance to the train station. The thing I liked the most were the kitchen facilites. Bigger tables in the kitchen. Only one couple can sit at the table. Meanwhile half the kitchen seating area is taken up by decorative furniture that holds a few plates and bowls. There was no dryer in our building. I had to dry the clothes at the other one. Sleeping on the floor for 3 nights was not fun but I knew that when we got there, except that I hurt my knee cycling one day and had to spend the evening in the kitchen.

The Ryokan experience is something I hadn't tried beforr and I really enjoyed it Tatami, private room, great staff made my stay 10/10!

Near Kyoto station, just 10 mins walking. Shower room too cold and dirty. The hot water container was rusted and super dirty. Water from it was super smelly. Sound isolation in the room was really poor. You can hear sound from the street and from the neighbors.

The shared bathroom and toilet are limited, and the shower could be better

People were smoking in the rooms. Since I’m a non smoker the cigarette smell was really bothering me
