Property was very clean and near a Lawsons convenience store. The staff were chill and kind. Paid 2,000¥ for washing and drying my clothes.

The room is so big, and I felt like the place has everything that you need, all is clean and in order. It also has a kitchen if you want to cook. Thank you! Everything was okey.

Staff were very friendly! Location excellent in a quiet area, excellent value for money :)

The location is a tad far from city centre, however, the value for money is excellent, especially during the Sakura season, so ultimately, I'm not complaining!

This guesthouse was very nice! The location was in a quiet neighborhood, which we appreciated and everyone was very respectful of each other's space. The kitchen was stocked with everything you might need and all the spaces were very clean. Would stay here again! The light in the bedroom is very bright with no secondary dimmer source, which would've been nice in the evening. Not a deal breaker at all, it was still a comfortable space to stay, but a lamp with a warm light would have been appreciated!

Location was good We did not like that some of the guests did not respect the 10pm quiet hours

Facilities were extremely clean and plentiful, providing everything you need and more. While the room was a bit small, the beds and unique flooring provided a comfortable experience. The living room provided a great chance to talk to and get to know other people staying, providing games and a kitchen for travellers to use. Laundry service costs were quite expensive and the location could be a bit closer to the CBD; that being said, it is not in a bad location, as there is an extremely cheap ramen joint nearby that stays open until 5am.

The owner was warm and welcoming. He explained everything clearly and was kind enough to help us get around. He even invited us to a nearby shrine, where we had a wonderful time celebrating the New Year with him and his family. The new staff member who joined on December 28 was also very kind and supportive. She shared the New Year’s dishes that the owner and his family had prepared, which made the experience even more special. We would prefer to stay again and will recommend to our friends and colleagues to visit Fujitaya Kyoto . The toilet bidet on the far left on the 1st floor was not working. We also had an unusual experience with a staff member named EKA. We weren’t sure if she was officially staff, but her friend was sleeping in the bottom living room when we came to use the kitchen, and there were alcohol and snacks left out on the table. Since we had children with us, this made us feel a bit uneasy. The friend later went into a private room with the staff member, which was surprising to see in a guesthouse setting. Other than these points, everything else was exceptionally well managed, and we would definitely stay again when we visit Kyoto.

This is an average accommodation in Kyoto where you get exactly what you pay for. It is a hostel with two levels and all the facilities you would expect or need during your trip. The location is fairly convenient with bus stops nearby, but it is also in the middle of a neighborhood so it is very quiet and peaceful at night. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the place is very clean. The living room area is spacious, and the shower room was large for a hostel. For just under $100 USD per day in Kyoto, we were glad to have a private room and everything we needed. The beds, despite being futons on tatami mats, were quite comfortable with the option to add additional padding underneath. The rooms do have a very strong musty tatami mat smell, which happens when you have a tatami mat room. The front desk is also only staffed for a few hours in the middle of the day, so we didn't see anyone working for the hostel until a couple days in. Not a problem because the hostel really runs itself, but it is definitely not a very social or inviting space. We didn't meet anyone while we were here and people were hardly ever hanging out in the common space. It's a basic place to stay but you should not expect much more out of your experience than a place to sleep, chill, and reset.

The property was clean & felt comfortable. The shared kitchen was pleasant & well stocked. The bathrooms was cleaned. Overall great stay for a great value! The staff was pleasant however sudden change of staff. Some staff are more pleasant than others. One evening I was working late in the dining room area (1AM) & heard the staff (a couple) having sex & making loud noise from the staff room.It was disturbing while I tried to work & they did not follow quite hours protocol that they implemented at the property. Which I thought was unprofessional to be doing that while on the job. The room smelled weird From the mats.

The beds were comfortable, and the toilets and kitchen were nicely clean. The kitchen was well stocked. It was very hard to reach the hostel staff, and many of the facilities (such as the laundry) required staff communication. After a four-night stay, we were not certain who the staff were, though we knew some were on site. In addition, our room smelled strange - possibly due to older tatami mats.

The communal space was not nearly as spacious as it is in the pictures. They renovated or rearranged the space and turned half of the communal area into staff rooms. Also our room smelled weird odd and it was a very strong smell. In addition to that, they were charging 700 yen each time you use the washer or dryer which is a MUCH steeper price than any other hostel I stayed at during my trip to Japan. Plus you could not use the washer and dryer past 9 PM which is not realistic if you are out sightseeing all day. I think 10 or 11 PM is a more reasonable cutoff. Additionally, this is the only hostel that applied the VAT tax in person. Since every other hostel had charged the tax with my initial payment I was a bit surprised/unprepared when this hostel asked for cash during our stay to pay for the tax.

Comfortable stay really clean property. Loved the ryokan style. Beds were actually really comfy and ac all worked great. One of my favorite stays during Japan Not much I didn’t like. Location is in a residential area and must walk about 15-20mins for the bus or train.

Quite location & comfortable room / feels like home. Everything clean, kitchen to use for cooking etc. Bath/ shower right next to the rooms. The smell of the bamboo carpet in the room was very strong

The staff , Jason and Cokey were very professional and helpful We had to leave 5 days early and still not resolved with a cancelation fee.(?) We informed the hotel well in advance and an unfair fee was NOT going to be paid.
