The beds could be cleaner, no good cleaning product (no toothpaste) was there

The hostel has a great location right in front of the lake, and the room was clean. Unfortunately, the heater in our room was not working, and it was extremely cold overnight. We had to sleep wearing all of our warm clothes, and I came down with a cold the following day. After I reported the issue in the morning, the staff investigated and confirmed there was an electrical problem with the heater. I appreciate that they acknowledged the issue and offered a 15% refund. However, given that it was the cold season, I feel the heating should have been checked before guests arrived to ensure the room was suitable and comfortable.

I had a wonderful stay at Haka House Tekapo. The location is perfect, especially for exploring the area and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. It’s right next to the dark sky area, making stargazing incredibly convenient. I also loved the beautiful sunset and sunrise views just outside the hostel. The common facilities were nice—clean, tidy, and very comfortable. It was especially helpful to have access to a drying room and a 24-hour washing machine. For a hostel, it felt quite expensive, especially for a shared room and bathroom setup.

The great view There’s no hot water till I checked out, had to take cold shower, and there was no make up plan.

The hostel is at the great and convenient location toilet with steel ground feeling cold in early morning and late night showering
-
Room was very small

Great location next to bus stops and grocery stores. So nice to have the shared kitchen.

I’ve been here a few times and you can’t beat the location the views and the building, so modern and beautiful . Staff could be more friendly but I guess they meet a lot of people

We don't often stay in hostels, but this one exceeded our expectations. Our private king room was small, but comfortable. The staff was friendly and the location beside the lake and close to restaurants was great.
-
It was clean and the bed was comfy. The curtains around the bed were nice and dark. Not a very social vibe but I found this at all Haka Hostels.

Great experience Good location

I stayed one night in a four-person female dorm. The mattress wasn’t the most comfortable, but for a short stay it was fine—and the privacy curtain definitely helped. The hostel was very busy, though the facilities were still kept fairly clean. The biggest highlight is the location, right in the center of the small village of Lake Tekapo.

The location was amazing Staff helpful and friendly The view from room beautiful Nice big kitchen with fridge and freezer The fridge wasn’t clean More washing machines
-
Excellent location and the staff we very helpful. Very pricey for what it is. They should do something to crack down on people cleaning up after themselves.
-
Best hostel views ever. Nothing to complain about here.

Private rooms at Haka are very small. Tekapo had a little more room but it's unlikely we will book private rooms with Haka house in the future. Haka is more ideal for people to share all the various spaces.
-
It was overpriced for a bunkbed in a shared room.

It is quite pricey, but I guess you pay for the location too. And the location is astonishing.
