The hotel itself is a gorgeous building, with an impeccable design and meticulously curated art collection. The staff are lovely and very thoughtful, the SPA area is fantastic, the food is excellent, the afternoon tea experience alone was well worth the trip. There was a complimentary airport pick up and late check out already built into our stay. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. - There was a discretionary 5% service charge per day automatically added to the bill. The staff emphasised that the charge is completely up to us but that puts guests in an awkward position of, should they wish to indeed remove the charge (if, for instance, no one showed up to clean the room), request it and then wait for another bill to be recalculated. During check-in we specifically asked what was the tipping policy at the hotel, and the staff did not mention the service charge at all. While I completely understand staffing issues etc, this is something Ryanair pulls, not an expensive London hotel. If the charge was announced somewhere on the booking confirmation it must have been the tiniest of prints and we missed it. I would like to stress that this is a hotel policy, nothing to do with staff and I would imagine they do not enjoy having this conversation with guests either. - Location - Mayfair has evolved into more of a theme park: there will be queues for restaurants outside, rubbish everywhere, a lot of people really fond of revving up their sport cars up and down the block at night and drivers almost running you over on a pedestrian crossing with their Maserati SUV (based on a true story). None of this is the fault of the hotel obviously, but a room on a higher floor maybe required for a good nights rest. - We didn't require room cleaning the first 2 days and the last day of our stay, the "Do no disturb" light was on and on the first day the staff indeed attempted to clean the room and left a card. However on the third day we did want the room cleaned, turned off the light in the morning, left the room for 5 hours and the cleaning simply didn't show up, even after a separate request at the reception at 5pm to simply empty out the waste basket and replenish the coffee station. There were no more cards. So all in - the room was not cleaned once.

I have never known such excellent staff. They went above and beyond. Perfect stay.
