The location and sense of history Nothing I didn’t like

  • Engine customer Jan 2026

The setting and the staff Maybe could have used a more diverse menu for dinner

  • Engine customer Nov 2025

Great design and maintenance While free shuttles were provided, it was a little far from town. Still a great place to stay

The hotel was in a lovely setting right by the Mekong River and our room overlook the river, but the hotel was old and needed maintenance with a damp smelling room and big gaps under the doors allowing insects and other lovely Creepy Crawlies free access into the room :-). The place was very quiet being off the beaten track but the hotel put together a van to take you into town 607 times a day had prescribed times which weren't brilliant but good enough. On the basis it was only a five minute trip, putting this shuttle on every hour would've been much more convenient.. While we were there, there were hardly any guests, and I don't know how the team would've coped with a busy hotel, since they struggled with a few guests they had The staff were very friendly, and were happy to help although found it difficult to understand what we wanted help with. As a five star hotel I would expect broken English understanding to be the base on offer. The gardens were reasonably well maintained, with the water buffalo being a nice touch grazing a different parts of the garden at different times. The place needed renovation and relied on its historic past for its rating. Being a large property, it needed a lot of maintenance which I presume could not be afforded because it was not done.... the pool was a bit grubby, probably down to the pump not working properly or not being cleaned properly. Breakfast was pleasant enough, if you didn't mind geckos crawling over your fresh fruit because it was left uncovered with open windows near by. The team had trouble cooking over easy eggs… And hardly spoke in English which made communicating really really difficult. Covering the food would seem to be hygienic and sensible.

View was excellent , breakfast was decent. The staff was excellent . Very friendly and always ready to assist. Less choice in Vegetarian food Staff needs to understand english better as communication was sometimes difficult

the serenity, the view, the majestic view of the Mekong - awesome the bathroom may have been a bit bigger - but nothing to complain

  • Engine customer Jun 2025

The view was beautiful. It was very peaceful. The deck of the bistro was lovely and the food was nice. Shuttle made it very convenient to go into town.

The reception staff are simply amazing !! I rate them 100 stars ????? EVERYTHING SPECIAL THE AMAZING VIEW TO THE MEKONG RIVER FOR BREAKFAST

  • Engine customer Apr 2025

Beautiful hotel and staff Terrible breakfast we even decided to go out to eat.

  • Engine customer Mar 2025

The property is situated right on the Mekong river with a beautiful view. It's a very peaceful atmosphere. Sitting outside for breakfast and afternoon for "Happy Hour" is just so relaxing. The buffalos grazing nearby is the best. The staff is very friendly and helpful. As the property is situated outside the city they provide a shuttle bus to take you down town. Free of charge. The rooms are spacious and lovely decorated. The food is good. Internet is good. Lots of TV channels, even many English speaking ones. The mattress was a bit hard for me.

The Buffet spread could have been a little better.

  • Engine customer Feb 2025

The hotel is located right next to the Mekong river with stunning views. The property is beautiful but it really needs a better upkeep and requires some maintenance

  • Engine customer Feb 2025

absolutely beautiful location and great property - very friendly and helpful staff does not live up to its possibilities - outdoor furniture throughout are quite uncomfortable - food is ok but not great - it would be better if Melia would actually managed this property

  • Engine customer Jan 2025

Great view of the Mekong River. If it's not too sunny or hot, try getting a table at the terrace, that view is fantastic.

  • Engine customer Jan 2025

Beautiful layout on the river a couple of miles from the center of town. Very serene. The hotel runs a van several times a day to the center. Staff is lovely and room was comfortable. Breakfast has a variety of foods available, but preparation was largely uninspired compared to other properties we visited. On the other hand, the dining terrace is absolutely gorgeous.

Dinner at Bistrot was very poor. Dried out, old chicken. Sauce was much too sweet.

  • Engine customer Jan 2025

The property is a former Lao prince residence, so it is spacious, luxury and view-rich Direct access to Mekong allows to board river cruises right from the hotel Service in the room and in the restaurant is problematic due to lack of personnel english ability and overall reluctance.

The idea of it, the river. Hotel was old and in big need of renovation. Room were dirty and we even found the coffee cup from previous guest left dirty. Staff not motivated or welcoming. the whole resort felt like a ghost town. Food was inedible, spoiled and unsanitary. We stayed for Christmas dinner and it lasted forever as service was extremely slow waiting 40mins between each dish and out of 5 courses, only one was partly edible. We skipped all other 4. There were no many clients but staff and kitchen were clearly under equipped and badly organized. Breakfast was so bad. Even the eggs seemed spoiled and that is when we decided to leave the resort after one night. The resort is isolated far away from everything and there is no other food options in the vicinity of the hotel. We depended 100% on the hotel for our food and the food was really bad. The worse we have encountered in Laos. So we decided to leave and we spoke to the new Managing Director (who started 3 months ago) who agreed to try to give us a refund but then of course didn't follow through and we never received a refund. Totally dishonest. We checked in another hotel "The Namkhan - Luang Prabang" which was wonderful and rescued the end of our vacation with oustanding service, beautiful setting and delicious food unlike this hotel. Don't stay here, don't waste your money with dishonest management and risk food poisoning.
