Mad Monkey Luang Prabang

Proper reputable social hostel in a cool town. Where do I start? It’s at least a 30 minute walk from the main road in Luang Prabang, so location is just bad. While the rooms are clean, they are “clean” for party hostel standards. Mad Monkey suffers from its party hostel reputation and doesn’t enforce its own rules. While all dorms have quiet hours after midnight, that simply is not happening. People come back to the dorms at all hours of the night slamming the door, lockers, and speaking loudly (this might be a criticism of the people rather than the establishment, but point still stands). The staff are a bit too relaxed, lots of the volunteers are just drinking and hanging out with the guests (no problem with that, but should probably still be working a little bit). So, lots to not like, but still one of the only hostels you should stay in in this town.

My stay at Mad Monkey Luang Prabang was super fun and full of energy. It’s the perfect hostel if you’re looking for a social and lively atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and made everyone feel welcome — they often organized fun activities, games, and pub crawls that made it easy to meet other travelers. The rooms and dorms were clean, the beds were comfortable, and each bed had its own light and plug point. The pool area and bar were always buzzing, especially in the evenings, but it never felt too chaotic. The location is convenient — close enough to the night market and main attractions, but still peaceful enough to sleep well. Overall, it’s an amazing choice for solo travelers or anyone who wants to make friends and enjoy the Luang Prabang nightlife while staying somewhere comfortable and well-run

Good place but the rest of the guests made the stay a bit uncomfortable. Drunk guests walk in to the dorm middle of the night shouting and making noises. One person peed inside the dorm on our last day of the stay :)

Hostel itself is fine, it’s the people staying there that are terrible. Complete lack of consideration for others, using the excuse that it’s a “party” hostel to be disrespectful, not just to other guests but to staff as well. Staff seemed very kind but had no handle on the situation whatsoever when said group of drunk babies decided to have a pool party at 3-4am.

I had a great experience at Mad Monkey. I like the way their bar works. And the staff are very friendly. The thing is that last night, 04/03/025, a friend had an attack. Screaming at 3am, I couldn't sleep. That's not to blame anyone, but the next morning I asked to change rooms and the receptionist accepted. I like the way they work, especially the area here. So I give a good review. I've been a customer of Mad Monkey for 3 years.

Staff went above and beyond and were lovely people form PoYe on reception to Jue, who cleaned the rooms and was lovely to chat to and happy to help, as well as Cola, who was definitely an affable and entertaining character! Food was very good too, all other bar and restaurant staff such as Dim, I think, were all lovely! Only problem, was with the plumbing on one day it made it a little smelly in the room.

Dorms are very spacious, there’s lots of room for you bag. Nice pool area, social hostel but not party Takes around 20/25mins to walk to centre but you can just rent a moped or get tuktuk

The facilities were possibly the best I have seen over the last two months! The sleeping arrangement was AMAZING! Each bed had so much space and storage. Unfortunately one of the Reps at the hostel made me a bit uncomfortable on occasions. I think he was trying to be funny however he would yell and swear a lot during card games and it was to a point where it wasn’t funny or light hearted anymore. He continued after I told him it wasn’t funny too. The other rep however, (Louis I believe but I could be wrong) was AMAZING!! He was so friendly and approachable
