In central Madrid, walkable to Prado/ Park Retiro in one direction, central Madrid plazas, literature quarter, palace and Latin quarter in the other direction. Rooftop pool was refreshing and relaxing, good air conditioning in the rooms. Spa downstairs with warm massage tub (for extra cost). Good breakfast. Helpful, friendly staff. The rooftop pool area closed at 9pm, which felt a little early. We had an interior room whose window faced a courtyard, and since we were on a relatively low floor, we couldn’t see the sky and natural light levels were low (not sure if this is the case for all the rooms). The beds rolled forward away from the wall when you sat or lay down in them! There was an end table placed against the foot of the beds to keep them in place, which I had originally moved to use as a luggage table for my suitcase, but quickly realized it had to stay in position at the foot of the bed! Not the biggest deal but I’ve never seen other beds rolled forward away around that much. The breakfast room was in the basement with no windows.

The room was very swish and modern and well appointed. It was a free upgrade and we never saw the actual room we booked. Breakfast was impressive. The Prado is within walking distance. We walked to the hotel from Atocha station. The hill was quite steep, but it is quite close. Having to pay a strange deposit (which was refunded the next banking day) apparently in case we cancel within the 24 hour period. Apparently everyone pays this regardless. The fact that I was standing there in front of them and therefore not likely to cancel didn't sway them. So basically you turn up at the relevant time, pay double and receive half of it back next day. An additional small payment was taken from my bank account with no explanation. Just £3 possibly a currency adjustment. Who knows as we were not advised what it was for.

The room for the second night was a tiny interior room that was quite claustrophobic and airless, when I asked to change the staff said that they were comnpletely full and thus unable to accommodate my request.
