Hallmark Express Hotel

The hotel has a good location and the building is nice. It is close to many places in George Town, which makes it convenient for walking around and exploring the area. Customer service is excellent.

Value for money For the money it is good

The mattress and bed frame were extremely uncomfortable. Additionally, the night shift staff was unfriendly and unprofessional.

Solid place to stay in Melaka! I had a basic room, but the amenities were all suitable and matched my expectations. The air conditioner worked well and the wifi as just fine. The staff was helpful and nice. Location-wise, it's a short walk to the old town area and this was actually quite nice, especially in the evenings along the river. The bathroom was a little cramped around the toilet -- maybe a larger/taller person would have struggled with that. The bathroom floor also gets wet because there's no divider between the shower and the rest of the bathroom, but from what I could tell this is pretty standard for hotels. I didn't mind it, since it was hot enough that it dried quickly.

Lovely staff, and not far to walk to Jonker Street, and a 7-eleven about 3 minutes walk too. Room had all basic amenities and was spacious. Make it better if the rooms had windows (can't remember if this is an option to pick), but no major issues :)

was a smell in the room

A spacious comfy room in the city center. Nothing really. It was a good stay.

Location: Great location. The price they charge is for location because everything else is mehhh except for the staff that was quite helpful. Staff: The staff is great! very attentive, prompt, and helpful. The smell, inability to open a window to get fresh air in, and the bathroom especially the shower. Hotel: As soon as I opened the door to the lobby, I was hit by a strong musty/moldy smell. It was a bad indication of what was to come. Room: My original room smelled horrendously. The room had thick plastic curtains as in thick plastic SHOWER curtains. I suffocated the whole minute I was in that room before it was clear I wouldn't make it there. I had trouble breathing from the strong plastic smell mixed with mold and mustiness. I called the receptionist and within a minute a staff member brought me air freshener. I explained that I couldn't breathe in the room. Then a couple of minutes later a manager gave me a different room and assured me it didn't smell. I get into the new room and sure enough it smells but muchbetter than the rest of the hotel. Two girls that checked in before me came into the lobby complaining of smell as well. My new room was better and in a much better shape and though it smelled musty I decided to stay. The window doesn't open (which explains the musty smell) so no fresh air ever gets in the room and since the hotel is in a very old building, the AC only brings in moldy air. I turned and left the AC on while I discovered the city. Upon my return the room smelled better though there was still musty air. The following day I did the same and the room smelled even better. Otherwise, the bed is comfy, the linen is good for the price, and the room is a very acceptable. If it weren't for the smell and my allergies and sensitivities to bad smells I would rate it high for the price. Bathroom: The bathroom had a small window that actually opens to the street so it has fresh air. The plumbing makes noises while the water is running. The toilet and sink were ok. The shower is a disaster. Suffice it to say I took sponge baths the two nights I spent at the hotel.

Good location. Ample parking space. Spacious room. Pillow was too hard.
