Excellent value for 2, nice neighborhood with plenty cool places to eat and drink - outside of the inner city noise. Good tram service meant easy reach to the CBD. The en-suite shower and toilet was clean and functional, real bonus. The set up of desk and light were good for working - but one of the plug that run the heater and one desk was not working. The extractor fan in the bathroom did not seem to be working. The shower head flew off and sprayed around when first turned on, but able to fix it by 2nd time. The staff hours are short - and unless you book them for specific time, they may be hard to find. There is a phone number to call, however.

We had a great stay. Room and toilets were clean, staff were nice and polite. It was near the free tram zone.

Having checked all three boxes pertaining to wheelchair access when filtering options, and Carric House being presented as an option, we were shocked to find no way to access our room other than two flights of stairs. The hotel itself does not list wheelchair access among it's features, but I relied on the search parameters and paid in advance. My partner is on crutches over short distances and a wheelchair otherwise. She's waiting for her third prosthetic hip after a nightmare run of unsuccessful surgeries, infections, dislocations etc. and currently has no left hip. The reason for our trip was that our son had surgery on both legs, leaving him with his legs in plaster, using a wheelchair to get around. Obviously we had to switch hotels. We stayed one night, then I stayed a second while my son and his mum stayed at the Royal Children's. The room was used for two of a five night booking. The hotel returned the equivalent of one night ($87). I was left to try and recoup the remaining two nights ($174) however I saw fit. Upon booking the accomodation, I opted in and paid for travel insurance, including cover for cancellation. My claim, however, was rejected. I put my case to booking.com, to see if they'd do the right thing, and am yet to receive a reply three days later. We shall see...

Overall, Carrick House Hostel has its strengths, but it falls short in some areas. With a few improvements, it could be an excellent choice for travelers. As it stands, I would recommend it to those who are looking for a comfortable, well-located stay and are willing to bring their own essentials. Great location: The hostel is situated in a fantastic spot, making it easy to explore the surrounding area. Comfortable stay: The hostel is cozy and comfortable, providing a relaxing atmosphere. Well-equipped: The hostel has all the necessary amenities, including pots and appliances. Reception issues: Unfortunately, there was never anyone at the reception desk during my stay. However, there is a phone available to contact staff. Limited kitchen essentials: Although the hostel has pots and appliances, it lacks basic kitchen essentials like cups, plates, and cutlery. No towels or bathroom mats: The hostel does not provide towels or bathroom mats, which would have been a nice touch.

Very affordable. Room got very hot at night during summer. NO AIRCON only a cheap Kmart fan is provided. Could at least provide a better quality fan especially during summer. Sheets and pillows were not comfortable pillow looked dirty. Sheets didn’t smell clean.

I like the location. I don’t like that it haven’t air conditioner in the room

Absolutely nothing. Please don’t be lured by the low price. It’s absolute trash. No lifts, not even water or hand soap in the room, just one toilet roll for 4 days stay and 2 people. Reception was extremely poor. When I called them, they didn’t receive my call and when I called from my friend’s phone, they picked up immediately. And later blocked my friend’s number as well. There was no way to get help in case of emergency. The worst experience of my life.

it's near to the queenn victoria market we found many hairs in the toilet, under the beds we discovered a whole world made out of dirty debris. Furthermore, the pans have probably seen ww2, please buy some new ones?

    Pleasant

Two rooms sharing one toilet is excellent as it was more convenient then a big communal one. The fridge sharing concept is also convenient.

It’s very affordable - if you don’t have the other options or in an emergency, it will do. The access to the kitchen is also convenient… The place was not clean - it was extremely dusty, we just kept sneezing in the room. While the pillow and duvet covers were clean, the pillows themselves and duvets seemed very old, used and aged with yellow stains all over. The shared kitchen area was cleaned regularly but the pots and pans were in a really bad condition. Some guests, while staying in the kitchen or common areas, did not respect everyone’s space and instead played music on their speaker while cooking. There was just this feeling that anything you touch, you need to wash thoroughly and after you touch anything, you need to wash your hands thoroughly.

the staff does the best they can, the location is good, general cleaning should be done, the photos in booking do not correspond to reality The dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed in, it should be removed from the booking platform the sheets were old and dirty, I asked the staff to change them and they changed them, I have never seen a dirtier carpet in a hotel in my life (the carpet on the first floor), the kitchen was very dirty, the internet didn't work for some hours, there were no blinds on the window, I asked the staff to cover the window so that I could sleep and they put a sheet on the window, it is a place where you feel disgusted to touch, not to sleep, some tenants may be workers were talking very loudly in the corridors after midnight

Great location, quiet street. Not very easy to access staff. Smelly bathroom and not very clean. The room didn't have everything as given in the description. I had to ask for a night lamp.
