Hyatt Regency Newport Beach West

This has always been one of our favorite hotels in Newport for a quick trip. The staff has always been incredible. This time the front desk woman had no idea what she was doing and needed way more training before being on her own. She was completely lost and kept asking for help but no one was too interested in assisting her. Hopefully the service can go back to what it has been in the past.

Place was great. Only thing we had to wait over an hour to get our room. We got are room till after 4pm.

Check in staff before 3:00 pm made no effort at all to accommodate an early check in and were not very helpful in any manner otherwise. The next shift was much better. The electronic key system is a mess. The elevators were down several times during our 2 day stay and we needed to have one key reprogrammed 3 times. Restaurant staff were for the most part very good.

The check-in process was not very smooth or welcoming. The woman at the front desk was not clear about whether I had actually been checked in or simply added to an early check-in list. When I returned later, the gentleman at the desk seemed surprised that no one had walked me through the usual arrival information. The pool area was also disappointing. It was completely out of towels, and the towels that were available were extremely thin. There was also an incident where a child had vomited in the pool, and it had not been addressed until I went to notify the front desk. On top of that, being charged extra for things like parking or a cabana feels excessive when you are already paying the room rate. Those additional costs made the experience feel less hospitable and more transactional. All in all, the stay was okay, but it did not feel especially welcoming, polished, or memorable.

Room layout was terrible & creature comforts were in the wrong place.
