Good location.

Location and atmosphere of the house. The toilet is not in the room, have to share the one on the floor.

Super nice manager who helped us retrieve lost items from the JR train. The place is super clean, and easy to get to from Odwara station. We stayed in a room that fit three people. It had a queen-size bed and sofa bed. They provided pajamas and also toiletries. It was spacious. It was nice to have a kitchen, and the shared bathroom was never an issue for us! There is also a super cute cat outside. For the price, it was totally worth it. We stayed in the area to visit Hakone, it is easy to get to the station. Because it is shared, keep in mind the noise during certain hours. This is understandable!

The architecture was unique and thankfully the air conditioning was very good. Loved the traditional Japanese bath. It was a little noisy in the night.

Homely, welcoming and charming.

the atmosphere of an old house modern furniture comfortable beds the cat! the coffee, the personnel if steep stairs are not for you it may not be easy depending on the location of the room

We had a big and cosy room and every detail was perfect. The bathroom and kitchen were shared but we had no issue at all! The shower plan was a very thoughtfull idea. Everybody was also very friendly and helpful! If there is one thing I would say the thin walls, but we had nog big issues :)

The man who greeted us was wonderful. He explained things clearly and in a relaxed way so it was easy to take in. The room was large and very pleasant. I say this with a bit of apology - it is an American complaint... For me, it would be nice if the whole building were kept slightly cooler. I'm fine that the main AC is in our room, and it was very nice to be able to make it as cool as we liked. It's just a little jarring when we go out of our room to have it be really hot. It would be nice if the temperature in the halls was maybe halfway between our room temp and the outside temp. We come from a cooler climate (Seattle), so the heat here is an adjustment for us.

This is not your typical hotel. It is a more traditional stay. You are met at the door by a friendly member of the staff, complete the paperwork at a table, given instructions on the locks with codes, switch out your shoes for slippers, shown around the entire place by the staff member and given instructions on how the shared shower, toilet and kitchen areas are to be used.

Fantastic facilities, excellent location just a lovely place to stay

The rooms are beautiful! The staff are so friendly and helpful, couldn't have asked for more But keep in mind, it's an old house and depending on travelers, they may be loud, not that respectful and might keep you awake or wake you up

- LOVE the design, classic Japanese mixed with vintage - Smell of tatami room ? - The staff - Super clean - Filtered water and delicious tea available - Great recommendations for food through Instagram - It’s an old house so you need to be mindful of others, not an issue just something to be aware of!

My family (kids are 7 and 9) had a great stay here. Our room was Ume and it was very large, with 3 double beds and 2 single beds over. We also had a private shower, large sitting area with dining table, which was separated from the sleeping area. The staff person spoke English and was very welcoming. We accidentally left our suitcase on the bus, and the staff helped us recover it. Room was clean, beds and blankets were very comfortable. Ryokan Plum is on a quiet street so we slept well. The whole place was decorated well. We walked to the park and visited the castle and shrine. Walked to the train station from there. It was a bit far from Hakone, but we knew this ahead of time. Nothing to report here

Amazing Japanese experience. Note that there is a shared bathroom, but the bathroom schedule works fine. The futons were very comfortable, and the place was really authentic. Also be aware that it is an old rustic house with thin walls, so don't expect too much privacy.
