Amazing place! If I go to Otsu again I want to stay there! Wow The staff, the room, the meals, everything was amazing! Nearby there's some very good restaurants. If you want to have a good time in Otsu, that's the place, and it's just a few minutes walk to the lake biwa

The property is incredible! Nice coffee machine, lovely snacks, and a great happy hour all add to an excellent experience. We did the morning and evening tours of the architecture and shopping district, respectively, and couldn't recommend more. Incredible and friendly staff are the cherry on top! No parking, but coin parking just down the street is incredibly cheap.

There are a lot of great things about this hotel. Friendly staff, great location, very clean. I took points off because my room was on the street side and noisy, making it hard to sleep. Also no shower one morning because they forgot to turn on the hot water. On a previous trip, I stayed in a different room that was on the backside of the building and it was great - very quiet. If noise is an issue for you, you might want to check what room you will be in.

Beautiful facilities, knowledgeable and helpful staff, delicious breakfast, and a lovely local historical setting near Kyoto. Be sure to join the tours!

Design. Coffee and cookies with compliments and the little things. Breakfast. One of the lady staff who’s in charge of the breakfast.Shes very friendly and very accommodating. This Machiya truly felt like home. It would’ve been better if the rate is isn’t as pricey knowing there’s nothing much to see around except on special occasions like Matsuri/festival.

Really cute renovated old teahouse that’s a perfect mix of Japanese and Scandinavian style. The room was spacious complete with all the usual amenities, a large bathtub, view of a Japanese garden and the most comfortable Scandinavian design chairs. You’re greeted by the most wonderful smell of tatami mats and sung to sleep by crickets giving it a very Japanese countryside feel. Complimentary drinks and snacks were a great touch, all in all a wonderful stay.

I tried Japanese style breakfast, and it was 10/10. Staff is very helpful and polite. One of the members speak a good English and can advise regarding local restaurants or places to visit. I would highly recommend to stay at this hotel if you wish to experience Japanese hospitality.

I’m still undecided about Ōtsu, but it does seem like a good alternative to Kyoto for an overnight stay - and it’s convenient for visiting Kyoto, too.

This hotel was in a beautifully restored Japanese house. The location was close to many restaurants, shops, and a retro shotengai. I appreciated the hotel's focus on using local products and revitalizing the neighborhood. We were so appreciative of the warm and friendly staff, especially Mary. Thank you for a lovely stay! The location was convenient and just a short walk to the train station yet my hotel room was very quiet. My room was spacious and a lovely blend of modern amenities and traditional Japanese style. I would definitely stay there again.

A unique experience of a small town Japan but close to the big city experience of Kyoto.

Amazing place and amazing experience! The city itself maybe was not so tempting, but the hotel was splendid, one of the nicest we ever stayed.

Hotel Koo Otsuhyakucho is absolutely fantastic. The staff all display a unique blend of supportiveness, professionalism and kindness that made it such a pleasure to stay there. The vibe around the hotel is relaxed, but everything is maintained at a high standard. I really liked the lounge area, with the free drinks and snacks being a particular highlight. The room I stayed in was very large with soft beds and a modern bathroom, albeit designed such that it was in-keeping with the general townhouse vibe of the hotel. I would recommend both the shopping arcade tour and the breakfast to anyone interested in staying here. The staff will also support you in finding local restaurants that suit your taste! It is extremely easy to get to/from Kyoto from here (regular trains, taking around 10-15 mins). Staying here would be the highlight of any trip to the Kansai region. Everything was perfect.

Very friendly staff, comfortable rooms

Hotel staff were great and fix everything promptly. The room service did not clean the room every day just simply replace complimentary tea and sweets. For the price that we pay we would expect the room service at least clean and tight up the bed and bathroom every day.

This property exceeded my expectations. A hotel where Japanese style meets Danish mid-century modern. Our room was furnished with Hans Wegner’s CH22 lounge chairs. The desk had a Carl Hansen & Søn Elbow Chair. The reception areas were beautiful with a very generous happy hour. I loved it! The staff were very helpful also with suggestions for things to do and places to eat based on our likes.

Beautiful townhouse in a quiet but interesting town close to Kyoto. The staff are lovely and provided us with breakfast and dinner. The complimentary drinks in the fridge were great too! Highly recommend
