The Docent's Collection at 121 Middle Street

Parking was tricky. It was not as close to the water as anticipated.

We had no idea how fabulous our stay was going to be! The loft space was beautifully appointed and so inviting. Full kitchen had amenities you didn't even know you wanted (frozen marble wine bottle holder, deluxe swivel Scrabble game and art books, anyone?). The whole place left you feeling spa-like and city-savvy at the same time. Hannah and Anna were the staff who helped us--they were responsive, courteous, and answered all of our questions before and during our stay. Check-in was super easy. The location was perfect--right in the heart of the Old Port, so we walked to everything. Don't miss this fabulous place!

Unexpectedly found The Docent's Collection on my trip wanting to spend an extra night. I was generously accommodated before my 4 pm check in time as I was already in the area. It is a beautiful loft style apartment/room that is spacious and very clean. Also within walking distance of a lot of the places I wanted to visit. I loved it so much and I would definitely be back soon.

Docent is a low touch hotel that has very clean, great spaces. The staff is incredible and helpful.

Great location w plenty of space to stretch put. Spencer was very helpful during our check-in. We walked everywhere, no need for a car :o)

The best thing about this hotel was its location. I’ll be blunt. It was terribly overpriced for what we got… a room with a view of a parking garage out one window and a cement wall out the other window. The bed was lumpy, the pillows were lumpy, and the bathrobes they left were child size so my husband couldn’t even fit into it. The robe I put on had one string missing so I couldn’t even tie it shut. It looked and felt like it was used well beyond its use by date. I asked for daily service and the sheets weren’t changed and the bed wasn’t made. The refrigerator was empty. You would think, again for the price we paid, they would have left a couple bottles of water and some fresh milk for cereal or coffee. A bottle of complementary wine would have been nice. There’s no concierge service and the desk wasn’t manned at all times. If you’re looking for advice on where to go and what to do, restaurants bars, etc. you’re not going find much help. The bathrooms were super small with only one sink. Lastly the parking lot was very small and we were bumped to a lot two blocks away. Overall trip to Portland was enjoyable as the food and atmosphere was great. However,, I would never stay at or recommend this hotel.

Great little boutique hotel. Walking distance to all the downtown Portland sites and restaurants. Large, modern rooms and very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay here again.

The location is perfect for exploring Old Town, highly recommend. The only improvement I would request would be some small fans in the rooms as the meager HVAC couldn't really circulate the air and it got a bit stale during the night. Very minor comfort issue. We will definitely consider staying with Docent again.

The property is in a great location and at first seemed fine but after being there for a few days I noticed a few things - the sink in both the bathroom and the kitchen did not drain well (the bathroom sink actually took hours to drain), the faucet in the kitchen leaked and there living room was not cleaned thoroughly when we checked in. The bed was also very uncomfortable. I think this is a good place if you want to stay a day or so but not great for extended stay. They also do not provide house keeping on a daily basis. Overall disappointing exprience.

Location is far from attractions. Parking is off site. New but not a great value. Recommend you stay closer to town in Camden where you can walk to shops.
