Stivan Iskar Hotel

My partner and I arrived in the city late and just needed a bed to sleep for a few hours, so we decided to book this cheap place despite the bad reviews. I called the place to confirm that they had available this room and that the reception was still open. On the phone a got confirmation that the room is available, the reception is open and we can either book online or upon arrival for the same price (35 euro) and they will have this room for us. To avoid any issues, we immediately booked through Booking. Our reservation was confirmed. We arrived 20 minutes later and with very arrogant attitude and without a single sorry the receptionist (I believe his name was Muhamed) told us that the room that we booked is no more available and he offered us more expensive room (50 euro). He told us that someone else booked the room few hours before us and checked-in few minutes before us, so he gave the room to them. This explanation makes no sense. If the room had already been booked hours earlier, why I was told on the phone that it was available? And why was my reservation confirmed? Advice if they try this scam on you too: They are expecting that in this situation when you're already in the hotel (especially late) you will just give up and pay for the more expensive room. We called Booking to report that the hotel was selling rooms that were not actually available. The 24/7 Booking phone number is (+359)29060903. They can penalize the hotel and find another one available for you. In our case, they also covered the price difference. I would strongly advise future guests to avoid this hotel.

Location Shower head was broken unable to take shower . Take Cash with you ONLY cash is accepted

Location close to many restaurants No elevator and no one ask for help with luggage. Bathroom is very small to take shower, curtains is not in a good conditions, no water or kettle offered, luggage storage after check out for only 1 hour. Payment by card is not acceptable.

We two old lady and our room was on 4 floor. Very pretty city, walkable but staff not friendly and our room was a lot of stairs to reach

Before arriving, I asked the owner on Booking if I could pay in cash in euros, and I was told yes. However, upon arrival at the hotel, I was told that cash payments were only accepted in Bulgarian leva (BGN). I had to go to an exchange office.

Location is excellent. The rooms can be little better.

the rooms are very dirty. It's very cold inside. no shower. the beds are old and the bed rails are sinking.

Central location, nice traditional rooms, near the mineral water springs to fill your bottles ;) We were asked to pay cash. We weren't prepared for that and for a hotel I feel the option for credit card is a must.
