Neat Hostel

The design was very authentic-feeling, featuring a lot of artifacts from old times, antique tiles and soothing lighting. The location was close to everything and the couple running the place were really nice and sweet. Also, Tainan was beautiful

No reception at all. Owners treat this lodging experience like an airbnb when it markets itself as a hostel. Owners told me i am the only guest that night and left me all by myself in the hotel. Owners expected me to pay with cash and didn’t offer immediate help to collect my credit card payment. I didn’t choose this place as an airbnb. I traveled solo so i chose this place for its backup and staff. Owners failed to provide any of those. Worst of all, the room i booked is not what’s given to me. Completely different from the pic. Lobby is not ready either. Very disappointing experience. Owners should prepared the place better and not expecting a guest to use it like airbnb cos it not.

I was looking forward to this stay in Tainan and it didn’t disappoint. This hotel is filled with so much character and we didn’t want to leave. This place is thoroughly cleaned and has a very cosy feeling. The owners are also really really sweet and helpful. The windows are original single glaze and outside is quite noisy, so I’d recommend bringing ear plugs for a good nights sleep.

Authentic old accommodation. Despite it being old, it is very clean, tidy and friendly staff. It is old and it is not cheap. We slept on a thin mattress on the floor, which was part of the experience. I guess I selected this place based on the reviews and not on the pictures. Communication with the people working there is ok in English. Also no breakfast possibilities at the accommodation and the closest place nearby had a waiting list of 2 hours.

We very much enjoyed staying at Neat Hostel. The property has a lot of history and is beautifully maintained. It really feels like you are stepping back in time. Our room was clean, spacious and fairly comfortable. The owner is very kind and gave us a tour of the property upon check-in. The location is unbeatable - close to the station but also right in the city center, with all major attractions in walking distance. There are some great coffee shops, breakfast spots and restaurants nearby. Two minor points we would like to share: (1) due to local festivities, there was a lot of outside noise until 3AM , resulting in a bad night sleep. Other nights everything was quiet. (2) Our bathroom did not have a real door, just a noren (Japanese curtain). This means that if you want to use the toilet, it is not very private and bad smells can roam freely.

Very nice old house

There was something I really liked about this place. It felt very local and the owner was very kind. It is convenient to the train station and on a residential street. There is a nice coffee shop below. There was a big celebration at the nearby temple but I did not hear the outside noise in my room. I slept very well. This is not a fancy new hotel, but a place that felt authentic to the area.

The owner is a gentleman. He was really helpful, engaging and kind. The best kind of uncle. Please go to Pu Jei Bakery down the street as our host advised. After 2pm and get the specialty bread. It’s like a big afternoon croissant with salty butter on the outside and delicate soft bread inside. Also there is a cold green milk drink with the massive tapioca. It is delicious. We stayed in room 207 and it is my most favourite room in two months of travelling around . The AC is cold the bed is big and the feeling is very colonial Japanese. I loved this place. I think it is curious, charming and why travel fills your heart.

It's a charming building with a lot of character and the owner is very pleasant. My bed was clean and comfortable. The hostel is close to Tainan's train station and there are some very cool neighborhoods and the art gallery buildings within walking distance to the south, and Tainan Park and Flowers Night Market to the north. The Old City is quite far but you can catch the Tourist Shuttle Bus 99 nearby. I found the area around the hostel much more interesting than the Old City itself, anyway. I would consider staying here if I visited Tainan again because it's a good base for exploring nearby neighborhoods. It was pricey but I was also staying during a national holiday and there weren't a lot of options available that suited my taste. There is no soundproofing, I could hear a family using the shared wash station outside my door at 1 in the morning. The hostel provides high quality ear plugs, you'll need them. Tall people, watch your head - some of the doorways are low. Also, it was difficult to control the shower without getting water on the bathroom floor.

NEAT Hostel was absolutely incredible in a central location, easily walkable distance from cute restaurants and bars. It was IMPECCABLY clean and the owner was so accommodating and sweet. I will most definitely stay here on my next trip to Tainan. I cannot rave more about this place, highly recommended. Nothing!

Nice old building, historic features, helpful host, good location Very noisy in the room, quite uncomfortable, no seating area as stated, no view as stated. we stayed during new year so price was very high and not really worth it.

This place has a really wonderful old-school feel. It's a great old building.

The attention to detail and preserving of the vintage tile and features was a treat! The owner took us arojnd and showed us the unique and historical features. It was great! The antique wood furniture really set the right vibe in the room. I felt very lucky to stay at such an amazing place. It wasn’t a long walk to the other historical places we wanted to go! We walked to everything including the train station. That we had to go back home. I want to live there.

Beautiful house with a retro-vintage atmosphere, like taking a dip into the past.Each room has cute tiled floors all different from each other. Rally nice details of the interior in the common areas. The owner was very kind and helpful.
