The room had a odd smell

The hostel is very clean and the staff are very friendly. There are all kinds of games and entertainment in the common room which our kids enjoyed, and the kitchen is well-stocked for cooking. The private family room we stayed in was nice- the beds were comfy enough and once we figured out how to turn on the air flow, we slept more comfortably. The staff put on a World Cup soccer game for us one morning and we enjoyed watching it with a few other guests. The community feel was more fun for us than staying in a regular hotel. The dryer takes a while to dry clothes- just make sure to leave more than an hour if you have a full load!

Can’t recommend this place highly enough! Clean and super comfortable, very kind staff, great facilities and common spaces. You can tell they make an effort to create a really peaceful and relaxing vibe. The location is perfect, very walkable :)

Hard to find anything wrong with this place. We absolutely loved it and would come back anytime.

I absolutely loved the experience of a guest house. The bathrooms and showers are great. It's quiet, the room was spacious, and sleeping on top of a bunk bed was the comfiest thing ever. Also, there's a guitar in the lobby free for all to play, so that's a 10/10

the washroom at the top floor can have unpleasant smell sometimes

The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. I had my own room, and it was very safe. The owner was so sweet and walked me around the guest house showing me all of the rooms and accommodations. She gave me great recommendations for what to visit. They also make great tea! The walk from the station was about 10-15 mins on paved sidewalks. Everyone who was there, from visitors to staff, was incredibly kind and happy to socialize. The public areas are very comfortable and cool. I love the decor and how everything is organized. It is very conducive to having fun. The hostel is a bit out of the way from the main town area, but not more than a 10-15 minute walk.

From staff to facilities, everything Nothing

Had to come to first floor to take showers, past reception area.
-
The bed had a hard mattress which seems quite normal for hostels in Japan.

The staff and the people were very friendly. They let me change my accommodation to upgrade my room and didn’t charge me a fee even though it was the night before. They clearly explained the rules of the property and were very accommodating to all my needs. It was close to the station (<10 min walk). The place was very clean and had an elevator. There was really nothing bad to say about the property. Maybe that the private rooms didn’t have a bathroom, but for the price I didn’t expect it to.

Wonderful common areas (kitchen etc), Japan style bedding and room, walkable to all touristy sites, great price

Big spacious guest house with fantastic communal lounge, kitchen and dining areas. I stayed for 6 nights total in private rooms as well as the mixed dormitory. Both were incredibly comfortable. The place was very clean and the staff were very attentive. Guests were a nice mix of solo travelers, couples and families and all were well suited to it.

Full kitchen They charged extra taxes, my reservation had included the taxes and they charged extra from the original reservation Also they have a lights out curfew of 11pm to 8! At 9 you’re dead tired you want to go to sleep!and the lights are on!….

It’s located 15 min away from Takayama Station. Staff was always friendly. Facilities were clean and comfortable… including the shared toilet and showers. They have an ample common facilities in the lobby floor, which I wished I could spend more time in with their great collection of books and retro video games. They even had a rack with kimono and yukata to take fun pictures with! Everything was great!
-
The place is clean, homey, and is just walking distance from Old Town which is one of Takayama's main tourist spot. The staff are also very friendly and accommodating. None!

Not exactly in the center of town — a little bit of a walk from most things — but Takayama isn’t big anyway, so it wasn’t much of an issue.
