Wonderful day! Beautiful town
-
The location in the middle of Takayama near the morning market and old streets is fabulous. The room was comfortable, and the service is impeccable. The staff went out of their way to orient us, and help us with directions and dinner reservations. They picked us up and dropped us off at the bus station. Our dinner at the attached sushi restaurant was absolutely delicious.

The Kachoan was a pleasant way to have an elevated traditional ryokan. The location is ideal walking distance to old town and well situated to main attractions. The staff were very attentive and welcoming. We were well cared for during our stay from pre-arrival communication and arrangements, to complimentary personal transportation fir arrivals/departure, room check in, dinner and breakfast. Meals were very good with personal service in individual traditional dining rooms. They were able to accommodate our request for western table & chairs as my inflexible 6’1” husband finds it difficult to sit Japanese style beyond 5 minutes. Air con was not strong enough in our suite during heatwave.

The location is excellent and the staff are super lovely - kind, considerate and willing to assist. We had an extensive view from our good sized room (Japanese style standard room) and were provided with an in room fan to assist with cooling the room. A double layer of futon mattress ensured a very comfortable bed. The shuttle service to and from the bus depot was faultless. We opted in to the Kaiseki dinner experience and would recommend this to others who are looking for a Japanese formal dining experience. The choice of 3 Onsen pools was nice and these facilities were in good condition. I concur with what others have recently said about this hotel: For the price I paid, I was somewhat disappointed because it's in need of renovation. The facilities - (bathroom, kitchenette, furniture) although clean they are really showing their age and therefore lowered my overall enjoyment of the hotel.

Lovely staff Fun meal Ladies were taken to downstairs spa and not offered the rooftop onsen.

I went with my wife and my parents in law. The room was fantastic, very wide, one room with futons and another one with beds, there were several onsen (some in the same building and another crossing the street), and in the room there was a tub and a japanese style shower. If you choose you can have a Japanese breakfast and dinner in the hotel. The hotel is close to Takayama Old Town. The amount of food seems excessive to me for both breakfast and dinner; I know it's part of the experience to taste the course, but I would recommend having options to choose from.

Very spacious rooms in a traditional ryokan. It felt like a real cultural experience. Very nice elaborate breakfast. Very good location walkable to the historic area and restaurants. The rooms were a bit worn.

The staff is so nice and helpful. We tried both continental and Japanese breakfast. Both were amazing. Because of our honeymoon, they prepared nice surprises for us. Nothing.

Location was excellent, all staff were kind, friendly and professional. This hotel was good value for money and I would highly recommend it. Food was good, service was excellent

Friendly environment and staff are so polite and excellent services. Good location and the design of the hotel is beautiful. Very impressive with the nice furniture and good quality things are used.

Great service, above and beyond!
-
Outstanding service by staff who catered to our every need and beyond! Beautiful ryokan and onsens. Enjoyed our meals.

Staff was attentive. Food as part of stay was novel and adapted to preference. Establishment provided almost no luxury for the price. Beds and pillows were uncomfortable. No massage or services outside of low quality onsen were included. Onsen were only public and open air onsen was across the street in entirely different building. Onsens themselves were outdated and poor quality, especially relative to other hotels in area that cose a 1/4th of the price. Upgraded rooms had visible mold over ventilation. And reeked of mildew. Incredibly disgusting and outrageous for nearly 1000usd a night.

Beautiful rooms. We stayed in top floor suites and they were fabulous. Staff always there to go the extra mile. Okami the landlady and owner was wonderful and she and her staff constantly were there to support every need. Food superb NA

Everything was perfect. We stayed for 2 nights. Also it was inspiring to meet the owner lady of the hotel who is personally welcoming every guest to the hotel ?

Loved the very mindful service of the staff. They were truly amazing and thoughtful. It was musty and smelled odd.

From the moment we entered this property we knew that it was going to be fun and different. It was our first ryokan experience and they greeted us by striking a gong at the entrance. We were then treated to traditional Japanese hospitality - slippers instead of our shoes, matcha tea and a sweet in our room, and kimonos to wear around the hotel (and even out and about). The staff was incredibly nice and helpful, and greeted us warmly every time we passed by. The breakfast was so good, in a private room each morning with Western or Japanese options. The location was great - in the heart of Takayama Old Town, by the Miya River and very close to the red Nakabashi Bridge, which was so lovely with cherry clossoms blooming. We walked to the Jinya Monrng Market each day of our stay which was so fun to see all the local vendors and eat street foods. Our room was very spacious, with a sitting room area and a separate bedroom. Our bathroom was very large as well by Japanese standards, with our own private jacuzzi. Very comfortable and nice! I can't think of one thing that we didn't like!
