Awesome location. Would stay here every time I come to Takayama.

Great location in old town Takayama. The staff was friendly. We really enjoyed the in house onsen. The location on the river was quite nice and we were able to sleep with the windows open and enjoy the sound of the river. They have a shuttle to the train station which was also very nice. But it’s also a fairly easy walk—which we did with our bags on arrival.

We stayed here one night and it was our first ryokan experience. The staff are very welcoming, helping us with our car, showing us to our rooms and dinner service. The location is spectacular as you're right in the center of Takayama. We were there for our birthdays and they provided us with a beautiful room with a great view. We also had an evening massage in our room which was a lovely way to relax. My partner loved the rooftop onsen and sauna available. I only visite dthe onsite ladies onsen and it was lovely! Overall a great first ryokan experience. We felt a bit rushed when we were checking in. I understand that there's a lot to go through and confirm but we felt a bit overwhelmed when we arrived to make decisions and answer all the check-in questions. But we realize that there's a rush service and things need to be done.

This was our third time staying at the Honjin Hiranoya Annex and once again everything was great. The facilities were spotless, the food was delicious and the staff was great. We will definitely stay there again when in Takayama.

The location is stunning. The views from the private decks over the river are fantastic. We loved the common areas, especially having a glass of wine in the lounge after an afternoon of walking the beautiful town. The rooms could have better seating, otherwise, no complaints.

Most of the staff speaks good -to- excellent English, making it easy for foreigners. Contrary to some websites, yukatas are provided for free, and guests have a choice of designs when checking in. Meals are served in private rooms on the second floor, which allows the staff to serve a large number of people efficiently. The food was varied and fresh, though it wasn’t extraordinary. It’s easy walking distance to the old town, and the women’s-only hot spring is a plus. Maybe I didn’t try hard enough, but the outdoor men’s bath on the 7th floor doesn’t have a view once you sit in the water

We really enjoyed the Ryokan experience at Honjin Hiranoya. The staff really went out of their way to provide excellent service. They picked us up from the bus station (and gave us a ride to the train station), gave us a complete orientation to the room, the provided clothing, the breakfast options- very attentive. The hotel has a nice view of the river and is right in the heart of Takayama. We enjoyed walking everywhere from the hotel. The breakfasts ( both traditional Japanese and Western) were delicious. I enjoyed the rooftop women's Onsen as well. No Complaints- it was wonderful!

I loved everything, starting from the location, to the room specious, the comfort and of course the friendly and lovely staff. I never experienced a warm welcome in any hotels before, in Honjin Annex they welcomed the guests with Wadaiko. Interesting I guess there was little miscommunication with explaining the breakfast types, since i don’t know the difference between the 3 types mentioned. But unfortunately the staff in the beginning didn’t explain unless if i asked.

The river view, tatami room, futon bed and the warmth welcome by staffs;Ono and the other chauffeur are very welcoming. I like how everything was arranged well by the hotel and I just relax here

Fantastic location and staff. Great rooftop onsen. Breakfast was a fun experience and tried both Japanese and Western. Yukatas were available in all sizes which was great for a tall person like me. Staff so friendly. Station pickup and drop off. Room had beautiful view. Space age toilet and nice bathroom. Had the Western style room. WiFi was fine but could have been stronger.

Honjin Hiranoya Annex is about a 12 minute walk from the JR station and located right near Old Town and the Saturday morning street markets. Great central location. Food and room was clean and comfortable. It's an older ryokan that has an 1980s feels but we liked that. We loved our corner view room and breakfast and dinner. Amazing local cuisine. The extra woman's spa was so relaxing.

The room was excellent and comfortable with great views of the river. The location is perfect - it's just off the main stretch so the street it's on is not too crowded, and everything is still just a walk away. The rooftop onsen for the guys and relaxkura for the ladies is a major highlight. Staff were friendly and attentive and most spoke english, if that's an important factor. On our first night's dinner, we felt as though we were being rushed to finish up. Also, even though we checked in just before 6pm, that felt a little rushed as well.
