Hostel Lali beach villa

The bed was sooo lumpy and uncomfortable, the room was quite hot, hard to sleep. The owner is a bit predatory on women. I checked in and came back to him saying “ oh I saw you at the beach at Fernando’s, didn’t know that was you who was staying here” then proceeded to ask me personal questions about my boyfriend being gone. Immediate RED FLAG, because as a solo woman traveling, why are you watching me at the beach? And then mentioning it to me… it made me very uncomfortable and I left the next morning after reading other reviews of women who also felt the same. I think this place has potential but the owner needs to be way more professional with his guests; specifically women so they feel safe staying.

What a kind host! All I wanted was a after a really long and stressful day of riding a lassi…Lali just went shopping and made me one in the night I arrived! It’s a great spot to stay, thank you very much ☺️

Enjoyed my quiet stay here. Owner was laid-back, but also able to assist me with what I needed. The bar area was cool, with a fridge/freezer I had access to, plus a sort of kitchen. And peaceful! The room was basic and bathroom too, with a cold shower, but so is the way in this area, and it's justified for the price. Good location for anyone wanting to hit Uppaveli beach. Also worth checking out the Commonwealth Cemetery nearby, for some peace and reflection. The hostel is under development, but has potential, and will be the place to be next season, no doubt! No mosquito nets. I didn't have an issue, but could see this being a problem for some. Otherwise basic, but fine!

Lali's place is enchanting and peaceful. Rooms surround a lovely garden with ammoks. Shady spots outside rooms and under a patio to enjoy the breeze. Room clean with large bathroom and window. Cozy bed and good fan. Five minutes to the amazing Uppuveli beach and close to restaurants and all kind of shops. A quarter of hour bus from interesting Tricomalee town. But indeed, what I appreciated most of this place was Lalinda the host. A marvellous person, heartful, kind and helpful. Passionate with his place and his job, it was a immense honour being his guest. I do thank him and wish all the best.

Very friendly and helpful host, overall a lovely and comfortable place to stay. Walking distance to the beach of Uppuveli, incl. nice beach bars and restaurants! I can highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a value for money place to stay in Uppuveli.

Everything was good. Lali is very friendly, helpful, he gave me some services. The room was clean. The garden is nice. It's a quiet place. We can use the kitchen if needed. The hostel is very close to the beach, restaurants and shops. I recommend this accomodation. I will come back. /
