Orange House

Property was close to everything Not sure if it’s my southern hospitality I’m used too, but the staff was very very rude to us. The day we checked in we were spoken to like children . Your restroom is separate which is fine , but you have three skeleton keys you have to use to open and close each door like a prison. Second, the air conditioner worked for about 20 min and did not work the rest of the night . If we did not have our fans it would have been much worse. Horrible experience. Staff was up and very loud until about midnight. Lastly, we were told breakfast was starting at 9 not right at 9am. We went upstairs to have breakfast at 920 and were scolded and told breakfast was at 9!!! So we were handed a bag with crackers and bread and two water bottles . It was 940 and check out was at 10. The staff tried to collect our keys at 940 and were waiting outside our room to clean . We felt very rushed and pushed out . Since the day we arrived we were hounded about the tax fee of 6 euro. We were exhausted from the day before and were awoken by staff being very loud at 7am . This experience by far has been the worst I’ve ever experienced in any country and I travel ALOT. I would NOT recommend this place AT ALL!!!

We really enjoyed our stay at Orange House. The room was clean, comfortable and had a beautiful breakfast. Communication with the host was excellent (russian-speaking too), and we appreciated the clear instructions before arrival. The location is great for exploring Varenna and Lake Como. We would gladly stay here again.

Our hostess was exceptional and very helpful. The best breakfast! The location was a couple minutes from train and Lake Como! Excellent restaurants, villa and gardens to visit. Great Beach Club with the best views of Lake Como!

Amazing breakfast Our bathroom was separate from the room but across the hall. Mildly inconvenient but not a real problem.

good location Well it’s tricky cause they did great at some points like preparing breakfast and show you how to lock the door in details, but in some important aspects they make you uncomfortable. For example, the host made his phone call very loud in the morning before 8 am, which woke us up. The host didn’t contact me in advance by WhatsApp and saying I’ve got a wrong number. But that’s not true. I’ve made another reservation of an apartment in Milan at the same time on booking, and the other apartment communicated with me in advance by WhatsApp….

We were delayed at the last minute on our check in/ luggage drop off time.

The location is great and very close to the station and ferry. I really recommend it. The host Mr. Pirelli is very welcoming and picked me up from the station on arrival. The breakfast was good. As a solo female traveller, I felt very safe. For the red room, the toilet is outside the room but it is private for the room. It was a bit inconvenient but was ok since there is noone on that floor except me. The other room is upstairs. The checkout is very early at 10am. We can leave the luggage at a nearby travel agency, but for a fee.

The owner met us at train station. That is great service.

The woman who met us and made breakfast was really great and prepared a wonderful continental breakfast. She spoke Italian and a bit of English yet communication was no problem. Location is great 2 min. up from the lake and next to a tasty restaurant which is open late. Beds were comfortable. Some candy and coffee in the room, a bathrobe and great hot shower. The staff called us in advance and was very proactive about making sure someone would be there to greet us for our late arrival. A little confusing to find although it is near the train station, but people in the nearby restaurant were helpful in giving directions. I'm sure if it was daytime it would not be difficult.

The host picked us up at the station. He is very hospitable and attentive. The room was very clean, and it comes with a fridge, a kettle, coffee, and tea. Breakfast was included and was very delicious. The check in time was a bit confusing, but it seems to be more of a language barrier problem than anything on the part of the host.

Great location. Only two rooms so our group of four had the place to ourselves. The host can configure one room to have twin beds and the other a queen bed. The downstairs room has the bathroom across the hall, but it is no problem since no one else will use the bath. They supply two nice robes to wear downstairs if you would like. The washer is in the downstairs bath, too. The shower was a little tight, but plenty of hot water.

The heat was not able to be used in the room (until October 15), and he pointed out a couple of extra blankets that were available. The first night, we had temps in the mid to low 40's and the room was very cold. Even with extra covers, it was not comfortable.. the next day and night were warmer, so it wasn't as cold in the room. The beds were not comfortable, and lumpy. The pillows were also flat and not a fluffy pillow at all.

Location AC was not working. I complained on first day, it wasn't fixed. We experienced the same problem on the 2nd day. Breakfast time is at 9:00, which is too late. There was no option to get it early.

The location and breakfasts were exceptional. As a solo traveler, I would have preferred not to have to leave my room and walk across a public hall to reach the bathroom. I also wasn't aware that parking cost 15euros/day. It was worth it, but it would have been nice to know at the time of booking.

Location perfect walking distance for accessing the train and the town center.

Wonderful location and great breakfast

The location was excellent, situated near the train station and a short walk to the lakeshore. The breakfast was one of the best with several food options to choose from.
