Zwanestein Canal House

Such an incredible location, right on the canal with a cozy nook to read / reflect! It was an unusually hot time in Amsterdam (mid 70s), but the top floor did get hot - opening the window helped a bit, but it stayed warm into the evening.

We loved our stay, but I would considering booking a different place to stay if: 1. You are not super close and comfortable with the person you are staying with (it is small and close quarters), or 2. You cannot comfortably climb 3 flights of very steep stairs each day. Other than that, no complaints!

The perfect location. Clean. Quiet yet right in the middle of everything. It a fourth floor walk up. Be ready for it.

How authentic it was The heating… it was a bit cold

Nice area, you could walk to the city center. Coffee and some waffles for breakfast were very useful!

Met with the owner sooner and she stored our bags in the room while it was getting cleaned. The canal view was amazing, great location, bed was so comfy, nice beautiful decor, large bathroom. Lots of thoughtful touches (tea, coffee, snacks, and bathroom items). She even provided us an umbrella to use! Everything was perfect!

You canNOT beat the view from the window seat. Watching all the canal tours while sipping a coffee (awesome espresso pods but buy milk or cream if you use it) was our highlight. The directions to the location were ideal (screenshot the map before you land) message us if you want to know how we did it from the airport using public transportation. There are only 2 units here and it’s on the top (4th) floor. It was SO quiet & the blackout blinds were perfect. The bed is an (electric) adjustable to each side and the comforter and extra blanket was soooo cozy. Too perfect! We accidentally slept for 15hrs!! The shower is modern and steamy hot. There is a switch at the bottom right of the bathroom mirror to turn it on & it’s an auto de-mist. The is no hotplate but a microwave & ‘kitchen’ items are in the 2nd drawer in the bathroom (took me a day to find these) The location is absolutely PERFECT! Walkable to everything in each direction. Close to great restaurants (Frenzy) and cafes yet away from the busy core. Do yourself a favour and walk 10 minutes to Boat Amsterdam near the HAART Museum and take a canal tour on your first day! It has been mentioned many times about the stairs but it has to be noted if you are at all concerned. This is very typical of Dutch homes but if you have massive or multiple bags or issues with steep, narrow, windy stairs - be forewarned. You canNOT drink a bottle of wine in your room and then decide to head downstairs and out for a walk ? The room is also very small (we knew that beforehand) but check the measurements before you book if that’s an issue for you. The lighting on the bedside and cords etc could be modernized but we made it work.

Great location. the stairs are no joke. Nanda did tell me about them and had someone take our bags up. This is on me, I assume a canal house had a canal view, it did not. if that’s important to you make sure you book accordingly.

Close to the center, ventilation, super cozy. Clean!

Location Restaurant around Communication to get in, not a full studio, very dark, absolutely no view, no place you can sit outside, don’t change towel (we were there for 6 nights), no garbage pickup,just a microwave, no kitchen sink,no cutting board, no cutting tools ,no soap for dishes, very very crowded in the room, 4 big chairs to big for the room and not comfortable. To many narrow stairs, 4 elevation.

Great location. Nice big bed. Check-in process was hard due to owners lack of messages. No elevator. Other than that everything was good.

Lovely room, super comfy bed and excellent location within walking distance of everything we needed and lots of public transport options.

Canalside location, traditional house in old town but very quiet overnight Shower a little underpowered- acceptable but maybe some would expect better at this price

The water pressure is a bit low but bearable.

Great location, nice part of Amsterdam right by the canal and river, not too busy but near everything.

Lovely studio room with a beautiful view. The location was perfect and within walking distance to everything. Nanda was a great host and was really accommodating for us when we needed to leave our luggage upon check out. We would definitely return, thank you for a lovely stay.
