Location is a double edged sword. Its 200m from East Gate of the Gugong and mins walk from Wanfujing. But for Tiananmen and Gugong visit you still need to take a car, so its only convenient in terms of when you exit the palace. In terms of general travel its actually inconvenient bc there is often heavy congestion on the main street of the hotel (bc of its proximity to Gugong), which means it generally take longer for Didi or taxi to get to you. Free drinks in the fridge was a bonus. The property is old, run down and very poorly put together: the hallway carpet is stained, hallway lights only partially worked, there were random outdoor alcoves and they were all dirty and left for storage of old furniture and brooms and stuff, the bathroom was dirty (the tub and the shower stall glass were stained), when I sit on the toilet, my knees almost touch the bathtub, the lamp on the desk was missing its base, there were stains and scuff marks on the walls and parts of the wall paper were peeling in areas, the main door was creaky and needed a hard yank, and specifically room 5501 smelled like a restaurant kitchen. Basically as you near the room at the end of the hall you can start to smell it. I believe its bc that corner sits above restaurant vents. I asked the front desk about it and they seemed to know that it was an issue and said they would "look into it". I asked to change rooms but they said they said the suites i booked were full and would let me know they never, but again never got back to me. It was a short stay, so by day 2 I couldn't be bothered. All and all not a good stay. There are better options at this price and the proximity to Gugong is a plus but not that useful. I have small kids to prioritized this, but in retrospective its not a bonus. Not to mention we had some "weird" incidents at night. We are 9 people staying in 4 rooms and 4 people had "weird" incidents at night.

the space was big. most of the lobby employees were really nice and helpful, even helped me with booking the tickets to the touristy places. Facility was old, especially the shower room and bathrooms. one employee was super rude, when I have struggle speaking Chinese, the attitude was very very bad.

I prefer doors and more privacy on the toilet.
-
Housekeeping did not change sheets daily, that was not disclosed upfront, same sheets were on bed for my three day stay.
-
Reception barely spoke English, the rest of the staff didn't speak a word! Very uncomfortable bed. Shower had almost no water coming out. We reserved a private Car to the Great Wall and they sent us a driver who didn't speak a letter of English!

Location, friendly staff, easy to find, rooms were functional, bathroom was nice size. Twice during our stay, mattress protector and bottom shrets were stained. They appeared to be clean, but the stains were there. Also, bathroom shower had mold and there was not good preassure.
