Dingy rooms, dingy carpets, window doesn't close, heater doesn't work. No hot water for shower. Had to fill water from two hot water kettles into a bucket to take a shower.

if anybody remembers the movie, The Blues Brothers, this room was not that far from what Elwood blues lived in. it’s old and dirty and I know they didn’t change the sheets because they smelled like someone sweat in them all night long. I went to the Walgreens bought some disinfectant, my own shower gel and shampoo because the place needed to be disinfected. I wouldn’t have stayed here except it was the first week of school and every hotel in a 20 mile radius of Berkeley was already booked up. oh did I forget to mention there was no hot water for a few days but luckily I had an equinox gym membership and showered there and it also gave me an excuse to get a workout in. i’m a single guy staying by myself so I dealt with it, but I certainly would not have brought any family members with me. Great location, but just know you’re walking into a time zone about 40 years ago.

This place is really cool. It’s older so sometimes things aren’t working but it’s worth it for the vibe.

This property has a false picture on Expedia. And there was not significan running water in the smoke stinking room. Total Fraud.

The hotel did not look like anything like the pictures had in hotel tonight. The hotel is rundown beyond dated and smell smells like cat urine.

It is a nice old fashioned hotel on University Avenue about a third of a mike from campus. They run a nice Chinese Restaurant

Buena ubicación, pero descuidado

Staff were very helpful at check in as there was no parking in front of the hotel-but they helped make it work. The parking garage nearby was more expensive, but easy to access
-
I used a parking SpotHero app online which found a nearby lot for overnight was $18. Reasonable.

Close to Berkeley campus, this is an older building with layers of paint. The lobby is a bit old fashioned and the room was clean with clean beds and bathroom. Limited amenities and a fridge in the room.

Least that could have been done is to be given a room close to a better and bigger washroom given the age of the guests. My mother is 81, I went to the reception to ask but they gave me vague excuses to not help in anyway. We did find the other 2 common washrooms to be used by the guests but we found them on our own, the manager didn’t bother to share that info when we checked in.

The staff member at the front counter was nice and welcoming. But where shall I begin? First of all, I was given a room with one bed instead of two. I was quickly moved to a two bed room, which I appreciated. When I went to look for the bathroom, I was shocked to find there was none in the bedroom! They have communal bathrooms and showers. I have never experienced this in my 30+ years of staying in hotels. Why it was not clear that all the rooms to not have a bathroom or shower, I do not understand. The quality of the bathrooms were not the best. This hotel really needs an upgrade. Bathrooms are old and dingy. The room had mold. There was a loud humming noise until 2 a.m.! My daughter left and stayed with a family Member who lives in Berkeley instead of staying in this hotel. I will not stay here again. The pictures online look nothing like the rooms in person. Beware!

Chinese owned hotel, old building, located in the middle of downtown Berkeley walkable for tons of food - Trader Joes, Shake Shack, McD, burgers, Thai, Greek, even Burmese -- Berkeley (and SF by extension) has amazing variety of authentic international food options of very good quality. Room had refrigerator/freezer, microwave and coffee maker. Next door was the Nash Chinese restaurant, open late. Soap, shampoo and drinking water were provided free. Iron and ironing board in the room. Staff was helpful. Two beat up working pianos in lobby. Very close to Downtown Berkeley BART station. Kinda musty overall. Many rooms have bathroom down the hall (a cheaper option). No A/C. Drink machine had warm sodas. A couple homeless folks on the sidewalk outside (non aggressive). King mattress I had seemed a bit worn out.
