staff is very friendly and accommodating. building is nice, rooms are pleasant, location is great. on site parking is super convenient. incredible value for a great experience. I guess the elevator is a bit slow? idk I think thats just elevators. its a normal speed for an elevator. really its incredible that we even have elevators. you just walk in a box and press a button and youre in a different place. it doesn't matter how long it takes, thats a miracle. we really ask a lot from elevators and I think its unfair to ask that they also be lightning fast. the fact that this place even has an elevator is super cool. very disability friendly.

It was within walking distance of where I needed to go. The woman in charge of the hotel was dismissive of my telling her the air conditioning wasn't working. She also was somewhat curt. When I returned to the hotel to claim my bags, she had me get them out of a dark room (she didn't offer to turn on a light or to get my bags for me). The room was somewhat shabby: the lining of the draperies had several strips of duct tape on it to hide tears, the shades of the two bedside lamps were torn and both were missing one of two bulbs, there was one little bar of soap for the shower, and despite my having removed the "Do Not Disturb" sign from the outside handle of my door in the morning as I left, no one made my bed or cleaned my room or emptied the wastebaskets.

Location next to food /businesses on downtown street, but two blocks from that traffic noise. I requested a small fridge and got that. The staff was very nice to me. The price was affordable for me. The bed was memory foam and my older body doesn't do well with that - so a very personal thing for me

The hotel location is great. The room is large and relatively comfortable.

The staff was very kind and helpful. The internet connectivity was slow throughout.

No onsite parking, limited parking spaces, but street parking was there and free from 6pm to 9 am so it wasn’t a problem.

The owner was very friendly and helpful. The location was very good for me and the price was affordable. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked. The listing says there is parking on the premises, but neglects to mention that this is very limited, that nearby street parking is practically non-existent, and that nearby paid parking is expensive. Fortunately, I arrived early enough in the day to get one of the available spaces, but I would have liked to have been adequately informed about this before I booked the room. In addition, the room was very worn (worn patches in the carpet, which had not been thoroughly cleaned for years, I would say; torn and broken window curtains patched with duct tape; and a poorly maintained "split" style heating/AC unit -- it was effective, but much noisier than it should have been, and than other units of this type that I have experience with).

Liked it all

I had trouble getting the TV to function fully

Location, price, cleanliness and staff behaviour were good. WiFi was too bad! I had to go to cafe and UC Berkeley campus to send some emails. Phone hotspot was not working as well. Too bad!

I called ahead to ask if I could drop off my luggage at 8 a.m. The person who answered said that I could, and that I should call her when I arrived. I did. Nobody answered. I tried three times. Still no answer--went to answering machine. I cancelled my reservation. The place looked funky, and I didn't want to stay some place where the management is so poor as to not pick up the phone at a pre-arranged time.

The owner was very helpful and went out of her way to make our stay very enjoyable and convenient.

The bed was really comfy and the room was reasonably priced. My request for a room on the top floor was fulfilled. The hotel is located right downtown, close to many restaurants and shops and the UC Berkeley campus. As an avid runner, I was thrilled to be able to run from the hotel up into the gorgeous system of trails and fire roads in the hills above the university. Ms. Patel, the hotel’s owner, was extremely nice and helpful. Parking was rather limited. The hotel has a small enclosed parking lot, and if that fills up you need to find a spot on the street, which can be tricky. Also, there’s a high school right across the street, so it can be noisy at certain times of the day. Also be aware the rooms do not have mini-fridges.

Great room and location for the value!

It was quiet even though it's next to a school. It's only 1 block from downtown. Transportation is plentiful and close including a bike route. I had to request a mini fridge for my long stay ,it's not actually a room feature. Low water pressure in the sink. Cleaning is by request as well, but that is only a slight drawback.

I usually stay in higher end places, and was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the Downtown Berkeley Inn. The room was comfortable, had air conditioning and was quiet. It’s Berkeley, so some street noise is inevitable but no noise from other guests. The proprietor was super nice and helpful, bringing a bucket of ice up to my room when I needed it. The furnishings are a bit worn but very serviceable. Good simple shower. No breakfast, and I brought my own coffee maker since I don’t care for standard motel coffee. Another advantage is that there was free parking! We managed to get a spot every time. I would have liked to bring my own coffee, but the coffee maker in the room was set up for premade pods. There may be other coffee makers if you ask. She’s very accommodating
