After flight issues due to a blizzard we arrived tired and jetlagged. From the moment we arrived in front of the hotel we were treated like family. The warmth of every staffer touched our hearts. We immediately made connections. For travelers who value authentic "immersion" over sterile chains, the Polo Floatel is a masterpiece of atmospheric storytelling. As professionals in the themed-entertainment industry, we were struck by how this hotel uses its maritime heritage as a primary design engine. We stayed in a Heritage Room, where a massive window functioned as a "live-stream TV" of the bustling Hooghly River. Watching the tugs and ferries navigate the current from the comfort of our room was hypnotic. The hotel is a favorite for local Indian families celebrating milestones, which gave the atmosphere a genuine, celebratory soul. Pro Tip: Don't miss the Bistro Bar on the top deck at sunset. We took a 5:15 PM Nauka ride (traditional boat) that turned into a two-hour twilight picnic. Coming back to the Floatel with the city lights reflecting on the water was the highlight of our Kolkata stay. Excellent service and a hearty breakfast! That I couldn't stay longer.

The location is exceptional. The breakfast spread was decent. I would specifically mention about Roshan, the property manager, who helped me upgrade to a Heritage cabin with a balcony. The facilities are not well maintained. The AC in the room was not working optimally. Later the filter was cleaned on our request. There was a spider in the room. The quality of food could be a lot better. When we asked the restaurant to prepare a simple dish such as Jeera Aloo, our request was declined since it was not in the menu. The commode in the room was not super clean.

It was an unusual, quirky place to stay. I liked the nautical theme . The staff were lovely and professional - nothing was too much trouble. Nice soft beds and decent bathroom. The decor could do with updating - stained wallpaper etc. The room could've done with a bit of a clean as the floor was a bit dirty and there were a few cobwebs here and there. Bathroom sink was stained around the plug hole. One room didn't have any tea bags, only coffee. I asked for a fridge in our room for my medication, was told yes, but we had no fridge. Had to get ice packs frozen/chilled at reception, which wasn't a problem. We booked taxi's to the airport at reception. Agreed a price, but it was more when we came to pay, so we didn't give a tip. My husband ordered a chicken Kathi roll for his meal but was brought chicken curry.

At the time of booking, I was assured that there would be a complimentary breakfast but the same was charged at the hotel. So, I feel myself misrepresented by Booking.com and due to that I had to pay an additional amount even when the room was booked at its high price. The way Booking.com has made false assurance of complimentary breakfast but failed to convery the said facility to the hotel.

I was there the day before the start of the 2025 IPL for four days and had a great time throughout. Everything in the hotel runs like clockwork and professionally. From the check in, to room service, housekeeping and the dining. Even the valet parking was commendable. Special callout to Arindam Chakraborty in the restaurant and Srabanti and Akash at the reception.

I did not stay as they cancelled my booking by Whatsapp (however they did not process the cancellation through booking.com, so I have been prompted by multiple emails to leave this review.) They said that my payment card failed, which was a lie. It worked fine, I used it that day. I think they did not want to honour the price listed on booking.com or they wanted to remain high in the search rankings so accept bookings but cancel by messaging you directly on Whatsapp.
